From the NY Post:
Embattled Rep. Gregory Meeks wants to muzzle the independent ethics watchdogs that Democrats unleashed after taking control of Congress.
Meeks (D-Queens), who is being probed by the feds for missing charity money and other possible wrongdoing, co-sponsored a bill that would rein in the new Office of Congressional Ethics.
Another New Yorker, Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-Brooklyn), also was among the 20 lawmakers who signed on to the bill that was quietly introduced last week.
All the co-sponsors are members of the Congressional Black Caucus.
Neither Meeks' nor Clarke's offices responded to questions about the legislation.
The bill would make it harder for the office to open investigations.
It also would stop the office, which does not have power to sanction lawmakers but serves an advisory role, from publicizing its referrals to the more powerful House Ethics Committee.
The office "is currently the accuser, judge, and jury. This isn't the case in the American justice system, and it shouldn't be so in Congress," said Rep. Marcia L. Fudge (D-Ohio), the bill's chief sponsor.
The citizen-run ethics panel has whacked at least eight Congressional Black Caucus members, including Rep. Charles Rangel (D-Harlem).

What a crock..
Well Rep. Fudge when one of us plebeians is arrested -that- is available to the media even if the arrest is voided or charges are later dropped.
This isn't (yet) some SubSharan dictatorship. If you are under investigation..we, your employers would like to know about it.
So what will the script feature; "witchhunt" or "lynching".
I hope my party stands it's ground on this one.
Congressional Black Caucus members draged down by Meeks and Rangle and possibly more of their own members is a wake up call for their constituents to oust them in favor of candidates they could back that would represent them properly vs the present day plunderers. The current batch of folks must have learned their trade from old school politicos such as Rangle - an unfortunate example of how not to be a black congressman. What the people everywhere in every community requires of public servants is representation that is honest, diligent and serves it's constituency. Congress Representatives are well paid, with stipends, expense accounts and pensions that are already exceedingly generous - designed to allow the representative to not worry or take money from interests that may taint a decision. Kick out the current crop of shady Congressman in November - bring in clean candidates that serve you and not themselfs!
The people opposing the bill should be the first to be investigated!!!!

If you're tired of Meeks, he has an opponent running this year- Republican Asher Taub of Kew Gardens. Sadly, many black voters would prefer an ethics-challenged Democrat incumbent to a scandal-free Republican challenger.

I'll say!
Marion Barry anyone?
Sharpe James?
Just two off the top of my head....
If the hypothetical choice was between Democrat Robert Mugabe and Republican Abraham Lincoln, we all know who would win that election!
"If the hypothetical choice was between Democrat Robert Mugabe and Republican Abraham Lincoln, we all know who would win that election!"
And Deke, the reason your prediction would come true is because knee-jerks, like "Lino", hopes his "...party stands it's (it is) ground." Instead, he should realize that the reason crooks like Meeks keep getting elected is because of the line-pulling lemmings like himself.
I hope he doesn't go crazy black man syndrome and scare all the white folks.
crazy black man
That's redundant.

God, some of you are stupid. Can you even READ and UNDERSTAND the words in front of you?
I am not going to try and explain what I wrote, go back and read it again asshole.
re:lino the confused liberal loyalist,
it was your PROGRESSIVE /LIB-DEMOCRATIC party in congress that forced the recent healthcare bill into law through bribery.
and they will be held accountable in november.
if you check out the list of minority caucus representatives, most can be included in the marxist camp.
i had to reread you comment to get your point.
it was unclear ,and (pardon me Q.C. readers), obtuse.
"God, some of you are stupid"
can you stop calling people stupid...you do it every single post...you're like a third grader

re:lino the confused liberal loyalist,
-Ahh, so it is the old man with bony fingers again!
"most can be included in the marxist camp."
You still parroting that McCarthy era crap? You are way too old.
the wolves are in charge of the henhouse
if this wasn't so blatant it'd be laughable...look at the roaches scurry away from the light!
they should give the OCE employees fat salaries, jobs for life (like supreme court justices) and a finders fee percentage of graft they uncover from these political parasites
in fact, all whistleblowers including journalists should be awarded a percentage of any monies saved by exposing corruption
each year there should be a public report disclosing all politicians (and spouses) annual earnings and the source of the income...member items/earmarks should appear in the report along with questionable relationships to the beloved non-profits that receive the cash
mandatory life sentences for political corruption
in my opinion, any politician who's been in office for 20 years should be investigated...we need to see some of these complicit/negligent politicians doing the perp walk for their involvement in the absolute mess/money pit that is our political system
term limit them to three terms and then out of government and no lobbying!
we need a massive overhaul of our system to weed out all the loopholes that the pols take advantage of
i won't hold my breath though...vote out all incumbents next election regardless of party
Lino - I would vote for a Democrat, and have done so, if they were fiscally conservative and morally responsible. You, on the other hand, would never vote Republican. That makes you a knee-jerk, a loser, and a complete name-calling idiot. This conversation is over.

Today that is true. For the record though I voted for Giuliani -once- in 93. I had voted for moderate republican Bill Green from his first run through his last in 1992 -decent man, not an ideological jerk extremest of the sort that party offers today.
I even voted for Bob Dole in 96 'cause I knew he couldn't win but felt it was right to give the last WW2 era candidate a tip of the hat. My brother did the same, my father a WW2 vet thought we were foolish but understood.
I had an open mind most of my voting life but after the limbaugh crackpots took over the GOP, scandals, incompetence and greed ruled. I'll have no further dealings with them.
"crackpots...scandals, incompetence and greed ruled"
right, because none of those exist in any other party...you just make it up as you go along, huh?
during the koch, dinkins regimes n.y.c. recorded an average of 2500 homicides per year.
you were afraid to ride your bike on the u.e.s.
so you voted for an law and order mayor, RUDY.
his n.y.p.d. reduced the murders to 400 per year.
but you still can not give the man any credit in your past comments here.
lino loves lib/progressive leadership until his customers are fearful of going out side at night to his partners restaurants. greedy ,greedy.
