From the Daily News:NEW YORK City may be missing out on millions of dollars in unpaid parking fines from Delaware and New Hampshire - enough cash to save a firehouse, Queens News has learned.
City officials said they try to collect fines from drivers registered in those states, but their requests for crucial records regularly go unanswered by those states' motor vehicle departments.
"Sometimes we hear back from them, sometimes we don't," said Owen Stone, a spokesman for the city Finance Department.
Amid all the red tape, motorists from Delaware and New Hampshire owe the city $2.8million in outstanding tickets, Stone said.
City Controller John Liu noted that rescuing a firehouse from closure would cost less than $2 million.
"We need every boost that we can get without nickel-and-diming every New Yorker," Liu said, urging the city to solve the issue.

The city-resident owning cars registered out-of-state not only escape paying fines but transfer the automobile insurance burden back on the folks who are not lying to the their insurance company. They ought to offer cash bounties to people who can identify cars which have out-of-state plates but are parked in New York City 365-days a year.
