Well I'll tell you were I went. I bought a motorcycle and ride that everywhere. My commute from work has dropped from one hour with the subway to 15 minutes by motorbike.
Everytime they raise the fare, people find other ways to travel. My friend walks over the 59th street bridge to get to work (weather permitting). People carpool to the city. Everone is fed up and a lot of people don't have the money for another fare increase. Lower the fare during non-peak hours and people will take advantage of the lower fare.
With unemployment around 10% of course there are less riders. Does Bloombut think that people are rididng the train into the city to go to museums and theatre with all their free time. What a troll!!
bloomburg has billions of dollars and he is closing hospitals and fire houses. And wont give a cent to the mta money gap. He has no reason to have third term or be a mayor in general.
with all the unlicensed and faked credential ,so called, motorists traveling in the metropolitan area be very cautious. the motor bike rider can be easily killed or disabled permanently.
n.y.u./Rusk Institute claims most of the paralyzed patients are motor bike riders.
Privative the MTA. We've had multiple fare increases, yet they still can't balance their budget. Call the Disney Organization. They manage to move people on a daily basis and turn a profit. With the amount of people using the subways, buses and railroads, there is no reason why the MTA should be in the red.
The subway trains were originally run by private concerns and they weren't any better at extracting money from the system while keeping the fares down.
The reality is that private ownership would be even more expensive per ride as owners sought to make a profit from a creaking 100-year old system. The only thing private owners could provide would be political deniability .
There is a framework of privately run utilities, who are supposed to make a controlled profit while providing fair priced services.
They can do this only if their employees are paid market rates.
The problem with MTA is that its workers are making 2-4 times market wages, then make six figure pensions.
Who is paying for this? Look in the mirror.
Of course the unions will threaten and blackmail and that's what they are good at.
The other alternative is to continue this path and continue to encourage young and productive people who are not able to work for state unions to leave.
Remember that the private sector pays for all these shenanigans.
People are sick of the hikes, excuuses, less service and have voted with their feet. Another hike will likely see ridership go down even further as warm weather approaches, people will walk. Many are done with subways.

Why your neighborhood is full of Queens Crap

ridership is down but subway is more crowded and more expensive?
The way out for MTA is to declare bankruptcy and pay its pampered union employees fair wages (fair as in what they would get in the private sector).
Otherwise, the MTA should be abolished and the transit system contracted out to private companies.
MTA wages and pensions is a luxury the local private sector cannot afford to pay for.
Thank you for your time.
