From the Times Ledger:
Bayside community activists said they were upset to find out the city has allowed a controversial project to develop a Korean church along 210th Street to move forward despite an outcry from neighbors of the property.
The city Department of Buildings has performed an audit of the development, but protests from residents in the neighborhood have yet to sway the city from putting a halt to the church’s construction, said Susan Seinfeld, district manager of Bayside’s Community Board 11.
A DOB spokeswoman said the church’s construction may continue, but it currently has no certificate of occupancy.
The church, which is being built at 26-18 210th St. in Bayside, has riled up residents living along 27th Avenue and 210th Street who say they believe the building will be out of character with the community.

The Rev.Moon organization has lots of cash.
Money talks
Wait 'till they turn on that killer P.A. system those places all have.
Horrible.
The Koreans separate themselves from the rest of us - why can't they go to the same churches as other Christians? Sermons can and ARE given in different languages. Our churches are struggling to stay afloat.
Of course they will not be paying real estate taxes on this property -
Shame.
Perhaps Julia Harrison was right when she referred to the Korean Immigrants as "Colonists"
Ugh, how frustrating. How does one keep fighting in the face of such bull by the DoB? It just never ends.
And now Bloomie wants to take away the community board's input for land use.
Schools are dying a slow death and now so will our communities.
Middle class will be flying out of the city even faster. No doubt.
By "out of character with the community" I think you mean "Korean."
burn it down.
Ha.. you Bay Terrace residents make me laugh thinking your above everyone else. Flushing has a million house conversions that are now Churches.. completely ruined the area around Bayside Ave and Parsons Blvd... but not a peep. You get a church and its bitch bitch bitch.
There should be zoning limiting houses of worship in an area but I'm sure that thought it somehow unconstitutional and politically incorrect
What makes you say Bay Terrace residents are "above everyone else?"
And what does complaining about Flushing have to do with complaining about Bay Terrace?
If you were are Flushing resident, would you be compelled to complain about Bay Terrace's happenings?
I don't understand you ignorance, rage, jealousy, envy or the that stupid hat you're wearing.
Please explain. Please explain why your mother still dresses you so funny.
Side note to Lino:
Let me point out this Anonymous imbecile above as an example, sir. This goes to the whole of my argument about bravery in using a moniker and its relationship to what one writes. Without an identification to ones words, one has no responsibility to what one writes or says. This person can say or write anything they chose without repercussion. That's the cowardice of the "Anonymous" post. It is the repercussion of society (others posting on this thread in objection) that keep discussions and comments in a form that promotes; respect for other ideas and peoples, a check in the soundness for ones comments and some sort of viable dialog. Without these few precepts you have nothing of substance and this valuable blog becomes useless. Useless like the plethora of blogs out there in the sea of narcissistic ramblings. Me, me, me, me, me. It would be perfect if I lived in a world that was populated by only little old me.
Holy Crap!!!
I'm chinese asian. Why are there so many korean churches? Why do they they want to build it in the MIDDLE of a residential area, with NO parking lot? Why don't they build it in a commercial area instead? Why does a 'church' want to upset its neighbors? Doesn't the Bible say "Love thy neighbor"? I don't understand this.
Thank You above poster... at least i'm not the only one...
Nothing makes sense with zoning rules in regards to houses of worship or as they're known in zoning as community centers
the City Council must exclude the term,(AS OF RIGHT)
from the building code.
this gives developers of facilities like chuches, day care centers, nursing homes, medical bldgs. the edge over the community's wishes.
I've seen this church and looks completely out of place.
There are hundreds of these "churches" getting away with murder because the city law says you have to provide parking for 200 people if you seat 200 people. If you use folding chairs, you don't have to comply with any laws.
I suggest any city councilman who does not take a stand about this stupidity be put out to pasture, and citizens need to see where candidates stand on this issue. I used to live in that neighborhood, it's heartbreaking to see "religious" people breaking god's commandments and hurting their neighbors. God will get them in time.
The very people who were supposed to prevent this from happening (queens DOB) aided them in this project violating building codes and everything else for that matter. This "pastor" knew from the beginning what he was doing, and still went ahead with this telling all of us to go F(*K yourselves. I would love to see an American try something like this in Korea. In the end we will win Mr. Gluckman. We all KNOW WHAT HAPPENED HERE!
Koreans' segregate, discriminate, break housing laws by advertising for "Asian" only tenants, speak only in Korean, and cheat on their taxes by purchasing everything on a tax-exempt basis, turn houses into faux-churches, send their kids to American schools with US financial aid, never pay back their loans, and flee to Korea when the Feds close it. They do not at all attempt to assimilate into American culture and they have poor brushing habits as the entire Q12 and Q13 bus smells like garlic breath.
These are not even actual churches....all they do is build churches so they can buy a bunch of houses around bayside to be tax exempt from paying the taxes on those houses! All they do is put their own people in these houses! These churches don't even preach the word of god, they preach how to rip off the tax system and how to not pay taxes and about other businesses! I'm so sick of these Asians in bayside! They pay no taxes on these huge homes that they are building and in the end, the homeowners get stuck footing the bill again because then property taxes go up!
Racist ass people. Look at you all... miserable. Just miserable for being you. I'm Korean, a united states citizen, I speak English and I pay my taxes, I've served on a jury, and vote every election. Further, I have no student loans. Shame on you for generalizing us Koreans. Whoever these folks are who are opening this church are doing so within the parameters of the law. If the city allows it then don't blame the institution. For once in your lives stop being such racist miserable people and embrace ethnicity. Stop thinking you are above the rest because evidently... reading your idiotic comments, you all surely are not. Dumbass coward chumps you all are. I wish I knew who some of you were so I can tae kwon do kick you all in your throats.
