From the Daily News:
A career criminal took an NYPD highway patrol vehicle with a loaded shotgun inside for a joy ride early Saturday - after an absent-minded cop left it running by a Bronx coffee shop, sources said.
Anibal Lugo, 48, hopped in the idle Jeep Tahoe and took it for a spin while the cop went for breakfast at the Lydig Coffee Shop in Morris Park about 7 a.m.
"This is the embarrassing part - he goes into a coffee shop and leaves the vehicle running," said a police source. "The perp jumps into the car and takes off."
Lugo, who sources said was a local resident with mental problems, drove the marked vehicle over the Whitestone Bridge and the whole way to the LaGuardia Airport parking lot.
That's where a Port Authority cop spotted the vehicle, secured it, and arrested Lugo inside the U.S. Airways Terminal.
"They found the guy in the terminal, walking around with the cop's cuffs, clipboard and some other stuff," said the source. "He kind of presented himself. He was acting a little erratic."

It really is hard to believe what the daily snooze publishes,If they can't get the little things right. JEEP does not manufature the tahoe,it's a GM product . As for the cop,i'm sure he'll be sent to pct far far away from home.
NYPD = over confident incompetent people
That's funny. I was always wondering what happens if someone takes off with the cops vehicle if the cop just left the engine running. In fact, if I'm a lunatic and it's the end of the world, I would've done that too! hahahaha
Yeah, the alleged perp has mental problems. That's his attorney's defense and he's sticking to it. A lame, all-purpose excuse if there ever was one.
Didn't Elizabeth just push a law through that we can't leave our cars on and un-attended?

Proposed, not ratified, and probably won't be very enforceable if it does pass through.
dum, da, dum dum
yea! He'll be shipped to the 104 pct
Wrong, it was signed into law. The Forum:
The penalty for leaving a vehicle running and unattended has been increased now that a bill sponsored by Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley in the wake of several tragedies earlier this year has been signed into law by Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
“Leaving your car running and unattended seems like a minor, careless mistake but all New Yorkers must understand that it is irresponsible, dangerous and potentially deadly,” said Crowley, who noted that the current fine for leaving your car ignition on and unattended is just five dollars. Under the new law, the fine has been raised to $250 “to deter anyone from being careless with their vehicles,” she added.
The guy was trying to make Grand Theft Auto IIII into real life!
I smell a rip coming...
I feel safer with Lugo flashing the badge and clipboard than the actual force that's out there. I wonder, would clemency be considered by Bloomer if he signed off on a few parking tickets during his exploits?
Lberty boy: GFY!
He also has metal issues and he has a problem with young kids too. As for the cop, well he deserves to be supended without pay, cops think they own the people, they run red lights just to get a coffee and donuts and they think they got it like that!!
