From Eyewitness News:
"It's really just a slap in the face to the Long Island City community, to do this without input and then to have a shuttle service. That doesn't really get to the heart of where people need to go to and from," NYC Council Speaker, Christine Quinn said.
Wow. Christine Quinn is upset about repairs that happen every year at this time like clockwork? Repairs that help keep the subway functioning? Upset about a shuttle that has been running from Vernon-Jackson to Queens Plaza - where one can switch to a multitude of Manhattan-bound trains - for years? I was doing the weekend shuttle shuffle waaay back in 2000 and it's been going on every year since then (and yes, I can attest that it sucks big time). Why the sudden outrage now?
Where was Quinn's outrage when the M train shuttle was running every weekend for months causing 20 minute rides to become an hour and a half?
Where is Quinn's outrage over the currently proposed elimination of entire Queens bus routes?
When developers and their customers are affected, Quinn is outraged. When the rest of us are affected, she doesn't give a royal shit. (No potential campaign contributions from the Ridgewood-Glendale-Middle Village crowd, I suppose...) Face it honey, you pushed through overdevelopment plans for a neighborhood whose infrastructure couldn't support it. Time to own up to your mistake.
And Chris: The LIC developers and merchants will be providing free transportation to/from Grand Central anyway and drawing new business in the process.
So give it a rest already.

as always, crapper wants things to suck like the way they always have because crapper grew up with things sucking
crapper, quinn is right, the mta plan sucks and you suck for not agreeing
No, asshole, I do not want them to suck like they always have. What I want to know is why Quinn cares so much about the 7 train and none of the other MTA-related issues that affect Queens. The answer lies in who lives and works in the new LIC and what Quinn's agenda is in 2013.
This forum obviously ain't your cup of tea because we call charlatans and liars out for what they are.
The developers should have been required to provide transportation to Manhattan from the beginning as part of their deals to get tax breaks. Keep the burdens off the system.

Looks like anonymous asshole needs reading lessons and a new blog to troll.
I like how Christine Quinn has shuffled her priorities.
When it was mainly Hispanics and Asians riding the trains on the weekends going to and from work and service was affected, there was not a peep out of her. Now that tower people are inconvenienced (and targeted Manhattan buyers are having a hard time coming to see their potential future homes), it's suddenly a huge concern.
The Q60 and Q32 buses are still going over the bridge and the N trains are still going to Manhattan. And there is a shuttle for the other LIC stations. This is a non-issue; an unfortunate part of life if you want to live here.
Maspeth mOM Says...
Quinn is asleep in the wheelhouse
and some one woke her up = Then she bcomes like a crying baby and we all know that no one wants to listen to that.
Chrissy Quim...she's switched from her old "kitty licking"days to sucking off developers' "doolies"..
Now swallow the consequences you bitch!
I just luve Queens Crap.
Its so educational.
This is so obvious a case of bias in favor of rich white tower people that are Manhattan wannabees while the rest of us dark skinned ethnic people have to live on second class scraps that obviously are afterthoughts to keep us happy and quiet.
My question is why my city council rep (who is like me, is a person of color) voted to make her Speaker.
Speaker for who? Developers? What about the rest of us?
Friggen Uncle Tom. Happy MLK day to you.
You know who you are.

Wasn't this the trigger for the whole civil rights movement? Whites and blacks treated differently when it comes to services?
So much for NYC looking down on the southerners. This would never be tolerated SOUTH of the Mason-Dixon Line.
At least down there the crackers have the balls to display the Rebel flag.
So much for Gay people being brought into the tent.
How quickly they forget what its like to be on the outside.
Regarding "minorities", thanks for bouncing me out of my seat on the 7 train. I don't know who the Chinese THINK are kidding, but those VICIOUS LITTLE OLD LADIES better watch themselves when they batten down their purses and make that bee line for the orange plastic. I'm on to YOU, MRS WOO!!!!
They not only have shuttle buses to bring them to Queens plaza but right on the river there is a ferry. What's up with these new tenants of L.I.C.? Should we get limos for them? Never mind the color of their skin, it the color of their money. You dont see her protecting the people of Astoria when the MTA was gonna cut serivce on them. My eyes wont shed a tear for these jack asses who bought condos built mainly by illeagal alliens. May they suffer for years to come!!!!
Crapper, the sad part is that less than 6500 voters voted for this stupid nasty woman who decides the fate of 8 million residents. She leads a " progressive" lifestyle yet is an OLD political boss. I don't hate gays but Quinn really makes it hard for me to support marriage equality. I hate her so much.

AMEN BROTHER.
"My question is why my city council rep (who is like me, is a person of color) voted to make her Speaker."
These people are worse than Quinn. She licks Bloomberg's ass and they lick hers. as a latina (legal one), I am ashamed and embarrassed by all those non-white city council members who voted for her and who voted to overturn term limits. They are a disgrace. They should die. But what is disgraceful are the fucking STUPID people who voted for them.

You should both be ashamed and embarrassed for such outright racist comments. You are no better than any member of the KKK. It's people of your ilk that have degenerated this Nation's celebration of the legal immigrant. You are foul and your breath stinks of the manure your speak. Your ignorance is only surpassed by your lack of bravery by hiding behind an anonymous moniker.
Have a nice day.
I didn't read those comments in that light at all. The persons of color commenting here are upset at Quinn's obvious racism with regards to this issue. In other words, her attitude is that it's bad when it happens to white folks, it's not that big a deal when it happens to everyone else. Why would a minority person vote for someone who harbors animosity toward them? That's all they are expressing.
And I did read into it that way.
The persons of color commenting here are in no doubt upset and are also in no doubt racists.
And is Quinn's outrage really about race? Or maybe more about pandering to her minority of constituents who happen to earn more money than the majority of LIC constituents. Not condoning her behavior.
Only my opinion, QC.
Crapper doesn't like Quinn and is jealous of people living in the new condos in Long Island City, so he has no problem going through contortions to support dumb criticism of them.
OMG you so hit the nail on the head! I am jealous of people who live near a noisy polluting train yard, have no decently priced supermarket, have no subway service on weekends, have huge empty lots all over their neighborhood that are full of rats and garbage and who paid top dollar for these privileges.
Thank you for educating my readers.
QC: That was fucking hilarious! Thanks for my morning laugh.
with the way LIC development has gone lately -rat filled empty lots and all - the playing jealousy card over living in over-priced shit boxes doesn't work here.

Er. This describes like 2/3 of Queens. Who are you kidding especially on a day like today, when basements are flooding all over your neighborhood.

Say what? Honey, you are the one that lives in a little ghetto instead of the big old mean real world.
Ya, baby. You sound like one of Bloomberg's neighbors from the East Side or Berumda or the Hamptons.
I bet you have a 'colored maid' for yo babies ... who takes 'em home to tha ghetto when your back is turned and feeds them macaroni and cheese while you prance around Wall Street.
Thats what you get instead of being a momma to your little ones.
No wonder yo husband makes it with the baby sitta, cause she's a real woman!

Heh. I rest my case.
"Er. This describes like 2/3 of Queens. Who are you kidding especially on a day like today, when basements are flooding all over your neighborhood."
I have a clean, decent supermarket a block away, I live on a well-kept block, there are no rat-infested, garbage strewn construction sites near my home, and my train runs fine on the weekend. When there are necessary track repairs, I don't whine about it. I have never had flooding in my basement and neither have my neighbors in the years I've lived here, mainly since we live atop a hill.
And no, 2/3 of Queens does not look like LIC and did not pay through their noses in order to pretend like they live in Manhattan.
2/3 of Queens lives near a trainyard?
Wow, talk about a jerk with a head up his ass!
2/3 of Queens has flooding? There has not been major flooding reported since summer of 2007. Mainly because DEP cleaned out the storm drains.
2/3 of Queens doesn't have abandoned construction sites; they are mainly concentrated in the Rockaways - and LIC as LIQCity detailed.
'Hates' motormouth shut up your glibness ol 'Klink' ....
but the rhetoric aside, we have a lot of stuff going on here.
Race, gays, communities (myth vs reality)
Sometimes a bit off topic, but hands down this is one of the most interesting websites on the urban condition out there.
A must read. Good work webmasters!

WTH are you taking about? I posted that comment because those black and latino sell outs voted for a speakers who represents ONLY the RICH FOLKS and has no interest in social justice. So go suck her pussy and stop with your pretentiousness.

Why did you pull my last comment Crapper? You leave comments with racial slurs, but you pull one with lots of detail that makes you look silly. Your censorship shows that you are a hypocrite and a coward.
Sorry, anonymous, I don't allow real estate ads on my blog. I also don't have garbage trains running through my neighborhood. And we're getting a new park. So you really have no idea what the hell you are talking about. And you are the one that insists that Queens outside of LIC is nothing but trash. Then you get upset when people answer you back?
I can't imagine that there is a Queens resident anywhere that supports Quinn. But apparently she thinks they live in LIC. Which looks to be correct. And they call people in middle and east Queens Archie Bunkers. The real racists appear to be the tower people.
Ah, hell, Crapper, I wanted to take him on.
The developers/real estate snake oil salesmen/hacks are always a riot.
Like shooting fish in a barrel.

Boo, do I have to remind you the first thing out of your foul racist mouth was a comment about color? Your comment had nothing to do about the rich or poor people (economics). Now you are are saying you hate on people because they make more money than you. Where is your self respect? Like I said in the first place, you see only color until someone calls you out on it, then you complain about economics. What are your really complaining about? I believe it's really only about your self worth. Think more about yourself! You deserve it!!!
- All you haters against me think about this for just a short minute...
Quinn's job, as a sponsored City official, is about speaking as a representative for all her constituents in total. That's what a representative democracy is about. Not just the minority, or the majority, nor the middle income class, or the poor, or the businesses, or the what have you ad nauseum. It's about equal representation. Only in the US do you have this!
Love on your Country and its Constitution. Read it like your Bible. It's that deep.
Words both poetic and passionate Klink.
