From the NY Post:A consultant is recommending that the city study new rate structures for the water system -- one of which could leave homeowners soaked.
After conducting a review of how cities around the country charge for water, Booz Allen Hamilton developed four alternatives to the city's current billing system, which is based strictly on the number of gallons used.
One of the options includes a revised storm-water charge that would boost bills for those with more property.
Parking lots also would for the first time have to pay sewer charges under that proposal.
The Water Board is expected to take up the proposals next year.

How about making all the people in arrears pay up; some of these customers are large companies.

Mind-boggling these "professionals" at the water company making 6 figure salaries haven't come up with this beautiful plan...
I know its just a money-grab, but this actually makes sense. A parking lot with 20 storm drains should pay more than someone in a one-family home. While the parking lot uses almost zero supply, it more than takes its share of the sewers.

I would speculate based on what the poster above brought to our attention that other property types such as parking lot that makes big buck and considerably much larger than a 1 family is not paying as much or anything currently. If there was avaialble data for comaparitive purposes, there are probably only too many commercial properties not even remotely paying their fair share. Go after these properties and also those in arrears and suggested by the other posters. Why is it the small guy pays for everyone else?
But do cities around the country have MTA taxes and 4% extra income tax on top of state and federal taxes, etc...
Water is a necessity for life. We shouldn't have to pay anything for our water. Just another tax to force the middle class out of NYC. How many times can they tax us. We have nothing left. How about cutting government and political salaries 20% across the board? How about cutting the salaries of all the big wigs at the MTA?
