Miss Heather's lesson in Bloomblight

From New York Shitty:

The vigilance (or this case, lack thereof) with which our municipal government enforces the laws put in place to preserve our, the citizenry’s, quality of life speaks volumes about their attitude as public servants.

This is unacceptable. No one should have to live with this.

Well the attitude is that we don't have to. Bloomberg wants us all to leave. So he lets our neighborhoods become blighted dumps, hoping that we'll move out and spare the city the cost of forced gentrification. Especially during these tough economic times. Hey, how about calling the Mayor's Community Affairs Unit? I'm sure they are as vigilant in Brooklyn as they are in Queens. Heh.

Oh come on folks, be adults no one wants the mostly white middle class to leave the City..we remember the 1960s-early 80s.

There are abandoned sites all over Manhattan as well as the outer boroughs. just one block down and a few east from me is a -huge- vacant lot (3rd ave @79th st) the wood perimeter was plastered with billboards until recently. It has been dead since January '09.

The -main- cause of gentrification has been the 1997 Vacancy De-control law enacted by jailbird Joe Bruno.

People in the middle class keep bemoaning the loss of affordable housing and resultant gentrification..but they keep electing the Republican shitheads who cut that same middle class's throats with such legislation.

If you are going to keep voting on your fears and prejudices, you will keep getting kicked in the ass.

Yeah? That's why once affordable neighborhoods without rent control have become unaffordable?

City Council, Governor's office and State Legislature are all Democrat dominated.

Yeah genius since 2007. Democrats didn't control things in 1997. Did that fact slip your "mind"?

"Yeah? That's why once affordable neighborhoods without rent control have become unaffordable?"

Yep..it's called the squeeze effect. As desirable central neighborhoods become more expensive, a process often started by decontrol, those priced out head for those outer-cheaper areas.

Probably not the answer you wanted, but that is what happens.

The point is, dear boy, that Dems have been in control in the state for 2 years and we haven't exactly seen tenant friendly legislation being pumped out by them.

And they have been in control in the council for DECADES.

Cute obfuscation on your part (or simple ignorance) Decontrol repeal has been approved by the Assembly and was supposed to be debated by the Senate but that was derailed by the Rep's and their "coup" and other tactics which have been funded by such groups as the Rent Stabilization Assoc.

Patterson has vowed to sign it if it even gets to his desk.

"And they have been in control in the council for DECADES."

Ahh well, the Council and Mayor only have control of the the old Rent Control Law..which they faithfully renew. Albany controls the much larger Rent Stabilization.

You're just testing me..right?

I'm sorry, but I believe 4 Dems were responsible for the coup. Nice try, though.

The four Dems did it on their own? The Repubs were just sitting there?

The GOP didn't have enough to do it themselves. They got help from 4 selfish Dems.

No, the main causes of gentrification were Bloomberg's upzonings and offering big tax breaks to developers to create luxury condos.
