From the Daily News:
Forest Hills storeowners are slamming the city for flipping lines of angled parking spots along 108th St. and fining drivers who don't back in, claiming the switch has scared away shoppers.
The city Transportation Department cited safety last month when it reversed the angle of the painted lines that define the spaces, encouraging motorists to back in so they won't back out into traffic.
But drivers who don't spot the signs about the back-in rule - posted high above eye level - often go in head-first. Some return to $60 tickets and soured impressions of shopping on 108th St.
Head-first parkers who belatedly notice the signs back out into traffic anyway - defeating the law's purpose - in order to turn their cars around and park properly.

If it wasn't broke, why fix it? For decades, people parked head-first on 108th Street, then suddenly, DOT changes the rules.
Thankfully, candidate Albert Cohen's office is on 108th Street, and he has been protesting this change.
OMG! Albert Cohen's office is right there. It was an easy opportunity for a photo op. He doesn't even know what the rest of the disatrict looks like.
Why are there sign in predominately jewish neighborhoods for 350$ fines for honking?

And your point being?
350$ fines for honking?
Sounds like an anti-goose law. Haven't they all been gassed by the commissar?
Back-in angle parking is typically advocated by cycling groups, as it is easier for bikes to be seen when cars are faced "head-out" when leaving spaces.
This has undoubtedly been done at the behest of bike groups.
This is how it's done in other part's of the country. It makes total sense that it's safer to drive out into traffic, not back out. Get over it!

The cops and brownies have new scanners that can read windshield stickers in milliseconds.
They just drive till they get a hit on something. Call in an impound of your car of you owe for parking tickets.
The Hook, Tow and Release charges are over $400 plus the tickets you must pay
They can scan at 20 mph.
This brouhaha reminds me of an old Dick Tracy Crimestoppers textbook entry: Always have your clothes hangers facing in the same direction so when a fire breaks out you can easily in one-fell-swoop grap the garments and flee. [I kid you not.]
Now, when I park in my driveway, I always back in so I can skedaddle as fast as possible - and safely - when I leave.
Haven't you noticed? The firetrucks do the same thing at the engine houses.

As a cyclist, I can say that this stretch of 108th Street is a treacherous one to navigate. Backing out of a spot into traffic is dangerous, but doubly so for cyclists.
everyone should back in it should be part of our ancient drivers test.
Have you seen these senile old people on 108 street or the Russians drive???
They needed to do this a long time ago, now at least the cops can also be on alert to ticket the russians that take two spots with ther expensive cars
Only in NY! Nowhere on the face of the earth do angle parking spots require you to back in. Who is the DOT brainless idiot that is being allowed to get away with this?

The above is clueless and wrong of course. Can't even take the minute to Google "back in angle parking" before spouting off? See Seattle and other places for examples....
Tell me they are not in the black with this right now...There are almost more signs in Forest HIlls to give you a GED..
