Grandma gets slapped with huge fine

Fined in lobbying goof

THE CITY-FUNDED group that pushed to rezone Willets Point was slapped with a $59,090 fine yesterday because its leader, former Queens Borough President Claire Shulman, forgot to register as its lobbyist.

Shulman was paid $135,000 last year by the Flushing Willets Point Corona Local Development Corp., which got $250,000 in city funds over two years to support the rezoning.

A spokesman for the group said it will pay the fine from private donations, not city funds.

John Lauinger and Adam Lisberg, Daily News, 7/23/09

And how exactly will she prove it's not from city funds? Maybe Grandma should open her books and let the sun shine in, especially since taxpayers are funding her.

"vote tony avella"

Yes, but Tony first needs to defeat Bill Thompson in the Democratic Primary, and Tony doesn't have the press coverage that Thompson has. Does anyone think it's a coincidence that Thompson's Comptroller Office is suddenly all over the news issuing reports on the Department of Education? It doesn't seem like a fair fight, IMHO.

Term Limits. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

Worthy groups around the borough are starved on a pittance, while large sums are given to the chosen few with questionable purposes behind closed doors.

The local officials gets millions and millions of dollars, and no one has a list on how they spend it or the criterion used to decide who gets what and how much.

We need this.

We need to start at borough hall, and Terrible Terri, and work our way through the list.

Developers and tweeder programs are funding with public money paid by residents who think it is going to improve communities and the organizations that they serve.

You mean like that federal stimulus money that went in $50k chunks to waterfront groups with ties to developers and city planning like Socrates, Noguchi, etc?

What do you expect from a Manes protege?

Now Shulman has her hands in the cookie jar once again at taxpayers' expense.

Poor gal...she forgot to register as a lobbyist.

If that's so...then it makes her a forgetful dullard which is far worse than having a slick crook in command which we might be willing to show some respect for.

Unqualified political thugs have been getting away with ruining our borough because the electorate has been asleep at the wheel.

Wake up...toll booth ahead...time to pay the price!

Article authors Lauinger and Lisberg aren't Woodward and Bernstein, that's for sure.

This story goes way deeper than merely "forgetting" to file as a lobbyist. Stay tuned.

Look at that old garbage bag.

She looks like she's wearing a Geraldine Ferraro wig with a comb down.

She belongs in the political compost heap.
