From the Times Ledger:
A rift has emerged between City Councilman Tony Avella (D-Bayside) and Community Board 7 after years of working side-by-side with little squabbling.
Avella and the board, which he served on for several years, have not seen eye-to-eye on a number of key projects in the last year and the mayoral candidate lashed out at the group last week after it voted to approve Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s plan to build a $1 billion police academy in College Point.
“How can the board talk about traffic issues in College Point and then turn around and approve a project that’s going to bring in 2,000 people every day?” Avella said. “I’m at a loss for words. I’m just shocked, not just disappointed. They’re supposed to be the representatives of the community, but apparently they’re representatives of the Bloomberg administration.”
Avella believes the board, which covers Flushing, College Point, Whitestone and Bay Terrace, has given too much to the Bloomberg administration by approving the projects against what he calls the cries of the community.
“It seems to be CB 7 has taken to being a lapdog for the Bloomberg administration. And they were not appointed to do that,” he said.

Holy City Jersuleum!
Someone has finally said something like this.
If others say it ...
Chuck "follow the buck" Apelian runs CB#7.
Whenever he takes a shit every other board member scrambles to get their ice cream cones ready!
"Apelian runs CB#&"
But Jews run New York City
I think that CB7 is deserving of an ethics investigation! My gut tells me that there is one on the horizon. The truth is, they have become lapdogs and "accept" the perks along with the proposed projects as if they were gifts from the almighty. The truth is that these road improvements and better sewers have been needed by the community all along!!! The "bones" that are being tossed to the College Point community, such as the rebuilding of the roadway past the former Flushing Airport property, have been requested for decades but are now being done because CB7 is agreeing to more overdevelopment in the area. Speaking of Flushing Airport, that's another joke. Did you hear the one about CB7 accepting 1/3 of the property after wanting to use the entire site for passive recreation...and then declaring victory???!??!???
Avella's hit the nail on the head and I thank him for exposing the truth about these poor excuses for community representatives. If there is no hidden agenda, why did CB7 kick the public out of a meeting last October?

Boy, you really would have enjoyed Nazi Germany, huh?
Stop blaming other people for your shortcomings and bitterness.
No, he would not have. Chances are the writer is Jewish himself. There are trolls sent here to write this crap to try to undermine the credibility of the blog. This way, pols and "real news outlets" can point to it and say - look at the comments people leave! That blog is a magnet for bigots! Don't take it seriously, don't believe a word that is written!
Don't drink the Kool-Aid.
Queens Crap is scaring the crap out of a lot of corrupt officials who prefer to do their dirty deeds in the dark. Are you listening, Chuck?
For heavens sake, cut knocking the Jew. I find your remarks offensive. Hasid, bukarans, one thing, but to criticize all Jews makes me sick.
You are a hack whose job is to ensure the public always follows the party line and at all costs dont talk to each other, so you divide communities with garbage like that.
Reality is jews are a fraction of their numbers even a few decades ago.
You want meat to chew on, answer this:
Why the hell is Queens in the pocket of the Irish generation after generation? Manton? Crowley?
If you want to go after a group, try that on for size.

I don't disagree with you, but you also can't leave comments like that unchallenged. Doing that only emboldens schmucks like that.
Only Jews run NYC?
As a pol, don't you have to make the pilgrimmage of the 3 "I's": Israel, Ireland, and Italy?*
Faith and begorrah. Meatballs and matzoh balls.
*Soon to be Ghana or the I-vory Coast.
Dear Posters and CB-7 bashers-
Let me understand something; CB 7- brings College Point a Special Use Group District thereby keeping out the polluters that could otherwise immigrate to this town in the manufacturing zone that currently existed and you posters cry "foul play" for Mr Appelian et al ! ETHICS REVIEW, look at what CP received in return, in terms of infrastructure goodies that pertain to traffic and stormwater! Not to mention the Police Academy.....Yes the Police Academy, dont you think that these people/cadets will use and spend their dollars in CP cafes and stores? Regardless of what you all will think, there will be a higher police presence here not to mention a good neighbor. Some of you will never be happy.
Start worrying about the air quality and contamination that exists and stop picking on CB-7 as they are good people fighting the hard for OUR community.
Great Job Marilyn et al.!!
You have to be kidding. Go to a community board in another boro.
A light year of difference.
You put a few people on - good hearted, well intentioned, and the perfect cover for what goes on - a citizen's rubberstamp for the mayor and city council (in other words, read developers)
Why couldn't Ft. Totten be refurbished as a police academy? The land is there already and it certainly isn't being used as a park. The only problem would be loss of LITTLE LEAGUE BALL FIELDS, which are a huge maintenance problem exacerbated by the crack (smoking) Parks Dept. teams out here in the Bayside area.
"ETHICS REVIEW, look at what CP received in return, in terms of infrastructure goodies that pertain to traffic and stormwater!"
These "goodies" should have been provided to the community without all of the wheeling and dealing! What do we pay taxes for?
hey kelty how much fatter you gonna get
"Great Job Marilyn et al.!!"
Marilyn runs the office and has no decision making powers!!!??!!?! I heard that she is efficient at what she does, however. Kelty & Appelian have become sellouts. Police presence? Are they going to use their Bloomberg gestapo tactics on the locals? Why don't you address the question of closed door meetings by CB #7 before handing out high praise, Dr. Cervino?
"Let me understand something; CB 7- brings College Point a Special Use Group District thereby keeping out the polluters that could otherwise immigrate to this town in the manufacturing zone that currently existed"
Can you please elaborate? Also, doesn't the increase in vehicular traffic for all of these projects inherently cause an increase in pollution to College Point and the surrounding neighborhoods? CB7 may be Bloomie's lapdog but you seem to be CB7's lapdog. Your argument about the police academy benefiting merchants is weak considering that they are just a very small segment of the general population. So when you say, "stop picking on CB-7 as they are good people fighting the hard for OUR community." I must take a step back and ask...what do you mean by "OUR"?
Isn't Dr. Cervino being paid for his many studies?
And by whom?
Grab your ice cream cone.
A PHD is certainly entitled to a double scoop of CB#7's flavor of the month!
Heh, heh, heh...didn't another "sterling" citizen once refer to College Point as the "asshole of Queens"?
It's actually been more commonly referred to as "Garbage Point".
After CB#1, the community board from hell...CB#7 is one of the most corrupt boards in NYC!
We don't need CBs anyway now that we've got a 311 number we can call.
When you phone CB#7 to put in a complaint we were told that they have to place a call to 311 themselves in order to follow through.
So why do we need to pay
Marilyn Bitterman $80,000 a year, plus her staff's salaries, to make a simple 311 telephone call?
Uh, oh and thanks Mayor Bloomberg...for instituting the 311 system.
You have constructed a no man's land between us and NYC government offices!
Things were far better before when a citizen could directly call the Mayor's Action Office!
Too many well paid "zoning" studies and too many lucrative "ecological" studies.
And where do they lead?
To the recipients' bank accounts...heh, heh, heh!
I look forward to a reply from Dr. Cervino. He has done some good things for the Point but he should have not engaged in political discourse, especially in defending CB7 from legitimate criticism. Closed door meetings do not bode well for CP! What about the Appelian/Vallone connection? Follow the money trail...
An ethics investigation on CB7??
Wonderful idea long past its due.
From Kelty on down, the obvious disregard for the taxpayers of our community is absurd. The crap they are pulling in College Point with the Academy and Shooting Range (Lead Bullets) vented out into the "COMMUNITY", The Crap they are putting the people of 5th avenue through who are trying to make their residential street safe, The approval of the new Van Wyck ramps even after State refusing to put aside $for the stated (impact studie) mitigating problems that will occur. The lack of Impact studies for Major Developments in the Malba Gardens Area and STILL approving the project. INVESTIGATE ALREADY.
