This guy will scare the pants off you!

Thank you to IMBY for calling attention to this video of Timothy Lynch, Forensic Engineer testifying at the NYC DOB's Build Safe New York Conference.

"In the last three years, there have been 13,000 new building permits in the city. Every new building has an excavation component, and for every new building, there are approximately three adjacent buildings impacted by the construction. Most of these buildings are on the lot line. That potentially equates to 40,000 neighbors being impacted by the new building. In response to the rise in excavation related incidents and collateral damage to the neighbor's buildings, the Department recognized the need to focus on excavation." -Timothy Lynch, DoB Special Enforcement Forensic Engineer

Wait 'til you hear him talk about what he found at the construction sites and in self-certified plans!

Congratulations to this honest civil engineer. May he keep a few people alive.

Engineers have some of the strongest morals of any profession, I know, I was privileged to work for The American Society of Civil Engineers for six years as a secretary.

I never had a nasty caller, a stupid caller or a time-wasting caller in all those years. I hope he chews their asses off.

I do not understand how this has come about in this city.

Nor why its remained quiet.

Thanks Crappy for bringing stuff like this to the public's attention.

I could never hope to read this in the Courier or the Ledge.

It seems the majority of the excavations are done correctly. Why can't the bad apples learn from the good?

The laws here seem fairly crazy. I used to live in my family's townhouse in Manhattan (a modest one by today's standards) but the a-hole next door couldn't stop enlarging and improving his townhouse. Finally he decided to dig out his basement to put some new rooms down there and he was PERMITTED BY LAW to dig under the foundation of our house to do so. I couldn't believe it! And of course there was damage. How could there not be? Not a bit of help from the slobs at the DOB.
