Pervert gets off easy

From the Daily News:

A Queens bakery owner who admits he molested a 10-year-old boy who came in for cookies isn't going to prison - and plans to be back at work next week.

Issac Ebstein, 50, pleaded guilty earlier this week to luring the child into an abusive friendship five years ago at Queens Kosher Pita in Kew Gardens.

He was released without bail and is expected to get a year of probation and sex-offender counseling when he's sentenced. He will not have to register as a pervert.

Prosecutors cut the deal to spare the victim from having to relive the ordeal.

A woman at Queens Kosher Pita said Ebstein would be back to work tomorrow - a prospect that horrified neighborhood residents.

"If he works here, I will pull him out myself," said a customer named Claudiu, who had just learned about the guilty plea. "There's no way he's coming back here. If he does, we won't buy here anymore."

He owns the place, genius. Buy somewhere else.

That's in Kew Garden Hills

The son of a local pizzeria in Astoria raped the daughter of my brother's best friend. Once the neighbors found out, the business closed before six months went by.

No one in the neighborhood would be caught dead in the place.

He doesnt have to register as a sex offender - WHY????- How could that hurt the victim - It could only helpand protect others -
Thats horrible --that law was made to protect people from molesters like this.

And he is going back to his business??? I hope the neighbors wont patronize this store.

I hope no one tags 'pervert' on his gates or the sidewalk.

Why are you insulting the person who said he won't give him business anymore if he comes back? It was a quote, why should that guy have known the pervert was an owner? Do you just kneejerk insult anybody without thinking?

You don't know who owns the stores you regularly patronize? What kind of neighborhood do you live in?

And they wonder why people don't like Jews.

I actually know a guy who's on the sex offender registry that committed a crime less egregious 10 yrs ago, but he's has to register for life.

In a story about a pervert who molested a 10 year-old, you decide to insult a guy quoted as saying he won't go to the pervert's store. Nuts.

No, people do not know every owner of every store they go into. Thanks for more bizarre commentary Crapper.

a) it was a woman who was quoted
b) she is a resident of the neighborhood and presumably regularly shops there because she said if he came back she wouldn't buy there anymore
c) I would guess that most people know who owns the mom and pop stores in their neighborhoods.

The disconnect from where we live is part of the reason why Queens and the rest of NYC is going downhill.

This story belongs in "The Pita File"

The neighborhood stores that we regularly frequent -- we generally know who the owner is. Not saying we know `em on a first name basis...

P.S. Do you think it would be too much to ask to remove the kiddie rides from in front of the store? It looks like Queens' version of the Neverland Ranch.

So "people don't like the Jews" because of this one pervert who got off? That doesn't sound very unbiased or honest to me; it sounds like a garden-variety bigot and racist.

Though it certainly seems that this guy got away big-time, that's no reason to paint an entire religion with the brush of senseless hate.

Thanks for more typical Archie Bunker anti-semitism on this blog.

well if you live in the area and know this has happened to possibly your neighbor, i would agree don't shop there. the owner should use their judgement now to keep him working. if i owned the store i would of fired him on the spot....

When he comes back to work, can a few neighbors also be there with signs, handing out flyers?

The faster news gets around, the better.

Jew, non-Jew---this guy is a pervert.

BOYCOTT THIS SHOP!!!!

The Jewish community its very tight knit, I think word is going go get out pretty fast.
But fliers by the area schools and markets would still be nice, and he needs to get rid of those rides.

What is the name of the judge who gave him probation? Publish the name, along with his title: His/Her Dishonor!

PUBLIC ADVISORY - SUNDAY, JUNE 14, 2009

On Friday, June 12, 2009, the Vaad Harabonim of Queens ordered the retail establishment known as “Queens Pita Bakery” and/or “Queens Kosher Pita”, located at 68-38 Main Street, Flushing, NY 11367, to terminate the employment and any ownership interest of Isaac Ebstein, who earlier in the week pled guilty to felony and misdemeanor sex crime-related charges in the State Supreme Court, Queens County.

In its hand delivered letter to Queens Pita, signed by Executive Vice-President, Rabbi Chaim Schwartz, the Vaad stated that by the close of business on June 12, Ebstein shall “neither work, nor be present in the store in any capacity whatsoever.”

Additionally, the letter ordered Queens Pita to remove Ebstein as an “owner, shareholder, officer, director, and/or partner”, and provide written evidence.

The Vaad was contacted by the victim’s family, and was closely monitoring the situation. Two senior members of the Vaad Harabonim of Queens were present in court for the guilty plea.

The Kosher Supervision Agreement between the Vaad and Queens Pita provides that the Vaad has the “discretion” to terminate the Agreement upon the conviction of “any crime of” committed by a store officer or director. This clause was cited by the Vaad in its letter.

The decision to order Ebstein’s withdrawal as an owner and employee was jointly made by the Vaad and local Kew Gardens Hills congregational rabbis in a special meeting, and upon consultation with legal counsel.

Vaad officials have also conferred with Queens Pita owner and proprietor Norman Kohn. Queens Pita has complied with the Vaad directive to immediately terminate Ebstein‘s employment. The report from the NY Daily News Saturday, June 13, 2009 that Ebstein would be returning to work, based on a statement from an unidentified female employee, is erroneous.

Queens Pita continues to be under the supervision of the Vaad.

Thank God. You ever heard of the expression that translates as, "A shame among the Gentiles?" I am a gentile and I am glad that the Vaad Harrabonim is taking action.

Shalom. Mazel Tov.

This isn't the first child molestor to get protection from the community so to speak.
The amount of Rabbis in Brooklyn with molestation charges trying to avoid prosecution is very long.

http://forasteroohioohiostranger.wordpress.com/2009/05/20/long-list-of-jewi

Case of Rabbi Lewis Brenner (Convicted of child molestation. The original charges included 14 counts of sodomy, sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. He agreed to plead guilty to one count of sodomy in the third degree, a Class E felony, in exchange for a sentence of five years’ probation.)

Case of Rabbi Ephraim Bryks (Accusations about sexual inappropriate behavior with children started surfacing in the 1980’s. Rabbi Bryks is currently a member of the Vaad Harabonim of Queens. The Vaad is a Rabbinical committee that makes important decisions within an orthodox community.)

Case of Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach (Accused of several cases of child molestation, and sexual assault of young women)

Case Rabbi Perry Ian Cohen – Montreal and Toronto Canada (Accused of sexual abuse of a seventeen year old. Fired for sexual impropriety with congregants)

Case of Rabbi Yitzchak Cohen (Accused of sexually harassing students at Bar-Ilan University)

Case of Rabbi Ephraim Goldberg – Boca Raton, Flordia (Pled guilty to one misdemeanor count of exposure of sexual organs in a washroom at a Palm Beach Mall.)

Case of Rabbi/Cantor Sidney Goldenberg (Convicted of molesting children. The first complaints came in 1971. He was finally convicted in 1997.)

Case of Cantor Joel Gordon (Convicted of having keeping a house of prostitution and involvement in a prostitution ring.)

Case of Rabbi Israel Grunwald (Accused of molesting a 15 year old on a 1995 plane flight from Australia to LA. The charge against him were dropped after agreeing to perform 500 hours of community service and to seek counseling. Grunwald was the chief rabbi of an Hungarian Hasidic congregation in Brooklyn, known as the Pupas).

Case of The State of Israel Vs. Sex Offender (Convicted of repeated rape and forced molestation of his graddaughter.)

Case of Yehudah Friedlander – Rabbi ’s Assistant (Accused of molesting a 15 year old on a 1995 plane flight from Australia to LA. Friedlander was the assistant to the chief rabbi of an Hungarian Hasidic congregation in Brooklyn, known as the Pupas)

Jews are above the law.

If this were an old line Italian nabe this guy would be eatin' his own "chitrool" for breakfast after the Don's soldiers circumcised it right down to the quick!

I miss those old kind of hoods (and the neighborhoods too).

Another shameful example of Orthodox Jewish hypocrisy.

Stone him!

If it was good enough for Jezebel...it's good enough for him!

You're quite a Jewish molestation scholar to be able to quote in such relished detail.

No doubt a similar list of Catholic priests charged with child molestation can also be supplied.

Expose and punish them all regardless of their race color or creed!

The Jews don't hold a monopoly in this heinous category of sex crimes.
