From NY1:
While some parts of Queens saw a drop in crime, newly released crime statistics show other communities are experiencing a jump in violent incidents.
Police say major crime is down 16 percent in Queens south and 12 percent in Queens north from the same time last year.
But police data shows Northern Queens saw a jump in homicides and rapes.
Home invasions and gang activity also seem to be on the rise in certain parts.
"That can kind of fit in with the hard times, but there's no excuse," said Queens Borough President Helen Marshall.
Chair of the City Council Public Safety Committee Peter Vallone said, "When they talk about the seven major crime statistics that doesn't encompass all crimes. Overall arrests, if you speak to any of the district attorneys, are up. That means there's still a good deal of criminal activity out there."
The borough's patrol commanders say youth and education outreach efforts are effective ways to reduce crimes.

What are the stats for our "vibrant, diverse, bustling" nabes?
NRA all the way!
Why is the 109th precinct's Captain Whelan minimizing or covering up MS 13 gang activity (particularly a recent drive by shooting) at the northwest corner of Crocheron Ave. & 164th Street?
What's "OFC's & WASP's & DYNASTY's" (gang related?) graffiti tags doing all around the Broadway LIRR station and well beyond into downtown Flushing?
If any of you law enforcement "professionals" happen to be reading this post...WAZ UP BRO?
Don't you think us residents have a right to know about existing dangers within our community?
I might have to take George up on his NRA offer. I have an old twelve-gauge shotgun under the bed that I've been meaning to turn into the police, but perhaps something smaller with bullets that don't easily penetrate drywall might be a good investment.
No, murders are down in Queens North. The pro-tower people told us so in another thread! It must be true, because Bloomie told them so!

Translation: "Don't count on the police anymore to solve the problem, we have been neutered by the powers that be and by the media. The race is on to determine what diminishes faster, the number of cops or their morale. We tried, but you refused to support our efforts. Go cry to Sharpton, Barron, the ACLU, Christine Quinn, lthe money, they have the power, they will raise your kids for you, they will protect you now (maybe). We are grabbing our pensions while we can, and we are leaving. Good bye and good luck, and God help you."

The 109th precinct... The same precinct that housed Dennis Kim and Jerry Svoronos. The same precinct that hasnt had a steady commanding officer in the last 14 years. The same precinct that has rogue/vigilante cops galor.
That precinct/those officers are from hell and you should NEVER rely on those filthy/lawless reprobates.
The 109 rogue's/ vigilantes......ha. did you get a parking ticket? those cops couldn't find a collar in a shirt factory.
"The same precinct that hasnt had a steady commanding officer in the last 14 years."
Hate to break it to you but all precincts switch up their commanding officers every few years, to keep bosses from getting too comfortable.
If anything don't blame the 109, blame PBQN (borough command) out of the 114th or QNTF for not doing enough to help out. And out of everyone the NYPD as a whole is to blame. There are 32,000 cops employed now.. around there.. we're reaching 1991 levels.. with tier 5 about to be implemented on july 1st you can expect the rank and file to drop even more... you're all fucked... unless you have some kind of protection.. and i'm not talking about a trojan man
when they say northern queens i wish they had named a 'hood. do they mean whitestone? flushing? i hate it when they are not more specific in talking about queens. if anyone knows what 'hoods they are talking about i'd like to know. i live in flushing.
I would also like to know which neighborhoods they're talking about...
Queens is broken into Patrol Boro North and South. That's what they are referring to. All the precincts in the northern half of the borough are in PBQN and all the precincts in the southern half of the borough are in PBQS.
You can go to the NYPD website and a get a statistical breakdown of your resident precinct. Be warned these numbers are completely skewered.
The only thing keeping many cops in the city is their pensions and variable supplement, which the unions contribute to, and the city has NOTHING to do with! If the state implements tier 5, and then moves to do away with the VSF, there will be a mass exodus of police personnel the likes of which this city has never seen.
and this is a surprise? keep building and they will come.....
all of queens is affected by this.
My sister shared an important crime tip with me. If you attempt to enter your apartment or home and the lock does not work do not try to enter.
A friend of hers was unable to enter her apartment, got help from a super and broke in only to find people in the apartment.
Intruders use gum or other foreign objects to disable locks while they work. Beware.
F the super,call the cops............yeah,there are a few left.
Well, she thought she had a broken lock. Now she knows better.
One year ago...the 109th pct never respond to a 911 call reporting a beating in progress where one of the perps had suddenly picked up a rock to escalate the violence!
"Did you see a gun", the police operator asked?
The caller said "no" so the cops never showed.
You want a location? It was in privileged Broadway/Flushing.
A future tip:
YOU SHOULD ALWAYS SEE A GUN WHEN QUESTIONED BY 911 TO INSURE PROMPT SERVICE FROM THE "FINEST"!
You could always plea mistaken circumstances if the gendarmes don't find the weapon.
They can't arrest you for that!
So you never went to IAB and demanded an investigation into this matter. They never went to the resource log to see what sector was assigned to the job and to see what their disposition was? They never questioned the patrol supervisor, the platoon commander or the two sector cops who were assigned the job, or asked to look at their memo books regarding the job in question?
They never inquired into why an assault in progress job with a possible weapon was never responded to, when such a job, which is broadcast over the division radio for all to hear, normally prompts at least 2 or 3 sectors, the patrol supervisor and at least one unmarked car to respond? You never wondered if incorrect or incomplete info was given to 911, which was then relayed to the dispatcher and to the sectors on the street? So you are telling me that in the entire 109, which is scruitinzed by outside units like IAB and outside agencies as well, just decided not to show up to a job when thay all KNOW that whether or not they show up is well documented? Either you are conveniently leaving out a few details about this incident, or you are just full of shit.
I called in a complaint about an obviously drunken belligerent asshole was jumping up and down on top of someone's car at 3am, doing considerable damage to it, and the cops came and told him to go inside the house and sleep. No arrest, no property damage report, and the poor guy whose car that was is SOL.
Look who knows what was left out of the story, but ask the person who the cops handed back to Jeffery Dahmer, or the 5 kids dead because a 911 operator could not locate the nearest cross street to "The Sound" (as in Long Island Sound) whether collossal stupidity occurs every day.
There will always be goldbricks and clowns in every profession. Sad to say, police don't have the margin for error that most have.
Come on in! You will see what I have for you home invaders!!!
I'm curious as well. In which Northern Queens nabes has crime gone up? I hail from GARBAGE Point.
you know why crime is up in flushing?? cuz there's a bunch of do nothing meter maids posing as police officers!!
