Ahles House may be landmarked

From the Times Ledger:

The city will hold a public hearing this month to determine whether a Bayside home built in the 1870s should be landmarked following a seven−year initiative by City Councilman Tony Avella (D−Bayside) to get the property designated.

The city Landmarks Preservation Commission will hold a hearing June 25 in its public meeting room in Manhattan to discuss landmark status for the historic Ahles House at 39−24 213th St. in Bayside. Avella first began advocating for the building’s designation in 2002 and made a formal proposal three years later.

“I have fought to have this historic mansion protected since the day I took office in 2002 and I am thrilled that the LPC is taking the next step to designate this Empire−style building,” Avella said. “The building is one of the oldest in Bayside and must be protected from falling prey to future real estate development.”

The home’s owner could not be reached for comment.

Does the shadowy 'Queens Preservation Alliance' that meets in Boro Hall (and doesn't waste time letting the rest of
Queens groups know what they are doing) give this their ok?

You know folks, there is nothing worse than self important straw bosses acting like a bunch of clubhouse wannabes.

Whats even worse is the full knowledge and encouragement by the preservation community for this farce.

If any group meets at a public space (and claims they respresent the boro) they should make their minutes public, don't you think?

now now now

lets not get huffy.

its no secret, the best way to keep things in check is to appoint the second stringers in charge.

they will keep a lid on things.

Why not let this ersatz anemic little "alliance" meet at burro hall?

That way Beep Marshal can keep a close watch on their doings (I think I meant non-doings)!

After all what do they do besides do-do?

Is this the "backbone" of our "preservation movement" in Queens?

Then we'd best negotiate terms of surrender with the developers!

I think it's my time for a bowel movement!

Gag!

Jacking themselves off...or each other...I suppose!

I wonder what the current owner of the property thinks about all this attention.

Is HDC in support of this?
