From the NY Post:
Congress is moving against Mayor Bloomberg's plan to build a trash transfer station in Queens that critics say would draw a dangerous number of birds to La Guardia Airport.
The transfer station planned for College Point would go up about 2,000 feet from La Guardia Runway 13-31. Federal Aviation Administration guidelines usually require trash transfer stations to be at least 10,000 feet from airport runways.
Despite the guidelines, the FAA last year OK'd the station, saying it poses no hazard to planes.
House members voted Thursday night to apply the FAA's usual guidelines to the station. The measure, tacked onto another FAA-related bill, now heads to the Senate.
Sully's co-pilot doesn't like the idea, either.

Why is it that people have to be killed to prove that Commissar DEATH and Taxes has no idea on how to manage city agencies?
Let's make sure we all live longer lives by shortening the time in office of this loathsome imbecile.
Toss this garbage into the nearest transfer station on November 3.
What about that unused transfer station on the Upper East Side?
Bloomass has NO respect at all for queens, this man has to be the biggest idiot. Birds will be over there looking for crap to eat and it will cause a problem with the airlines. Use the unused trasfer station on the upper east side and stop dumping on us here in queens. We have the damn airports, the overcrowded schools and all the illegals living here. oh lets not forget we get all your buddies on the expressways heading back to the city after a weekend in the HAMPTONS, sorry bud your ass is done and we're not taking it anymore.......
Plain old common sense seems missing these days from our politicians. While this transfer station might be closed down, I have a feeling that it only appear somewhere else in Queens . . . we really need to vote this mayor out of office.
He should build it near his townhouse.
And if it doesn't work gee.... Where's Tully from Willets Point going? I hear they are fighting this transfer station big time. They have their own plans.
Manhattan would be an excellent site for this transfer station. Queens has enough trash and city agencies. Why not build it near Mike's house? So tired of being dumped on in Queens. Share the wealth! Put the station in Manhattan. When Bloomberg loses the election, he'll demand a recount and if he has to, he'll pay for another election. Go back to Boston!
AND HE HAS TO ASK HIS CAMPAIGN IF HE SHOULD DEBATE (CHANNEL 4). HELLO FOLKS!!! WOULDN'T VOTE FOR MY MOTHER IS SHE DIDN'T DEBATE.
Not enough, Queens need the FBI and everything they got due to the mass corruption and mass negligence with the lives of over 1 million people.
The Mayor has simple "baught" to much local power.
Even locals at civic assocations are getting pushed out windows.
An outside investigation is needed.
