Barber shop celebrates 50th anniversary

From Fox 5:

Joe and Frank Loccisano have stood side-by-side cutting hair and making five decades worth of memories. Over the years, the Ideal Barber Shop accumulated a lot of memories and loyal customers.

"The secret is you have to take care of your people your customers and they take care of you they keep coming back," said co-owner Frank Loccisano.

For the Loccisano brothers, business and blood do mix.

God bless. For once, a clip joint that I don't want to see closed. May all of us get more haircuts from the barber, fewer from the banker.

Does anyone remember the Star Barbershop on Broadway in Astoria? Between 32nd & 33rd Streets. I think it closed in the early '60's. That was an assemblyline tonsorial mill. "No waiting". In and out, boom, boom, boom.

I've been going there since the mid-1970s, even though I no longer live in the area. Even the other barbers there are very good, if you don't want to wait for Frank or Joe.

All respect to Anonymous (seriously) but I have been going there since about 1958. Excellent management, excellent haircuts, low cost.

And yes, it is reassuring to see that it is humanly possible to keep doing the same thing very well without becoming arrogant, or opening a chain to make a fortune.

Maybe others can share some other "lessons" from this Ideal barber shop...

And as I say, their haircuts are, for me, the best.
