NEW YORK (AP) -- She doesn't look a day over 60.
During 1939 opening ceremonies, master builder Robert Moses declared New York's Whitestone "the finest suspension bridge of them all."
On Wednesday, the Whitestone turned 70 years old.
The bridge spans the East River, linking the Bronx to Queens, and points beyond.
MTA Bridges and Tunnels says that in its first year of operation, 6 million vehicles used the Whitestone. Last year, there were 43 million crossings.

This is some sight from the water you can get a real view of the structure passing under it.
About 80 feet east of the north tower there is a sunken sub. It a dive sight you can see the shadow form above the water.
Now (post 9-11) you cant stop your boat anwhere near the bridge.
Aren't they going to also name this bridge after another Kennedy?
Perhaps Edward after he passes into his future. The submarine would add a certain touch.

Whitestone doesn't even have pedestrian access. What's there to celebrate?
