Council doing towing industry a favor

$185 FEE PLAN KEEPS DRIVERS ON THEIR 'TOWS'
By SALLY GOLDENBERG, NY POST

Adding insult to injury, the City Council is considering a bill that would more than double the cost of towing a car from an accident scene.

The bill would hike towing fees from as little as $70 now to a new rate of $185 for hauling cars away after an accident or a breakdown on a public highway.

The towing industry yesterday applauded the legislation.

Bill sponsor Leroy Comrie, a Queens Democrat, said the amount of the increase is subject to change, given the city's opposition.

This does nothing for mortorists except to promote vulture like tow truck chases to accident scenes that in the past these Tow operators knowingly break laws and endanger the public at large to snare a hapless motorist in an accident.

The doubling of fees is outragious and operators were known to hook up vehicules without permission. The tow drivers bully folks, have licenses with numerious violations and a threat to society.

The city should heavily regulate operators, have a clean background and buisness practices that are above board with consumers.

The City Council nneds to be flogged and whipped in City Hall. Its time that the city council represent the people, not just the businesses and the city coffers.

Tow chasing will stop, when the nypd learns to do their job right. All too often, cops do not want to wait the allotted time for the authorized tow company to show up and make deals with chasers to hook up the cars that can not be driven from an accident quickly, because they don't want to hang around.
