City raids area it plans to seize for developer

From the Daily News:

In the days leading up to the Mets' exhibition opener last week at Citi Field, city agencies made a sweep of businesses at Willets Point, a gritty industrial zone across from the $850 million stadium.

The multi-agency raids on Thursday and Friday ended with 11 businesses shut down, according to state Sen. Hiram Monserrate (D-Queens).

One of the business owners who was targeted, Ahmed Aryana of Aryana Auto Body, said he pays $4,000 a month in rent and can't afford to close for even a few days.

"Every year they come and they check [for code violations]," he said of city inspectors. "It was no problem. But [Thursday] when they came, they say something is no good in the roof."

The Buildings Department issued vacate orders to three Willets Point properties for violations, including rusted support beams, "questionable" welding and "structurally compromised" roofs, said agency spokeswoman Kate Lindquist.

"The buildings are not safe for occupancy," Lindquist said, noting the sweep was conducted along with the NYPD after cops notified the Buildings Department of "unsafe" conditions.

11 businesses were located on the three shuttered properties.

The crackdown comes as the city attempts to negotiate deals with landowners to redevelop the property. It controls more than half of the privately owned land in the tract.

Newly elected Councilwoman Julissa Ferreras (D-Jackson Heights), who is holding a press conference with Monserrate today, said she believes the crackdown is an effort to deprive holdout landlords of rent and motivate them to ink a deal with the city.

Interesting that Monserrate threw these folks under the bus and now apparently is pulling them back out and dusting them off to rehab his image. But this is less about him than about turning this city into a police state.

More interesting is that the 110th Precinct is now apparently in charge of driving around and looking for problems with buildings. In my neighborhood, they claim they don't have enough manpower to handle their actual police work, never mind pulling double duty as buildings inspectors.

Have to agree with Julissa on this one. The EDC, Bloomberg, Marshall, Shulman and Parkside will do anything to get the land for cheap. They are doing the dirty work of the developers.

Oh, how I wish that the DOB had found time to check the ceilings in the buildings under construction by my Monserrate ally landlord.

Perhaps they would have kept them from crashing down on my living room. But then, they didn't come after everything was annihilated either.

Perhaps corrugated metal tin foil ceilings are more menacing than 200 lb slabs of concreted and masonery.

Signed,

U know who. The floors and ceilings have been properly introduced and will be marrying soon. I invite you all the the reception.

Kim Jung Il, Commissar of North Korea, threatens the world by firing a missile that is capable of carrying nuclear warheads. His purpose? World Domination.

Commissar Death and Taxes, the mentally Ill Commissar of New York City, fires his own missile directly onto private businesses for the purpose of NYC domination. Plus wealth beyond imagination.

He corrupts the NYPD by requiring them to lie that they have the credentials to perform building inspections. It was those guns they carry, you see. He says he wants guns off the streets. What he wants is to shred the citizens power to defend against the likes of him.

He corrupts DOB (now that's a trick!) by requiring it's staff to force business to close, by the lie that beams and roofs are "questionable" or "structurally compromised".

Now Questionable and Compromised are trademarks of this Commissar.

Sit back and watch this as though you're safe at your peril. These are just practice exercises.

Your home and business are next for this power addict.

While your vote stall matters, dump the Commissar on November 3rd.

Elect Tony Avella if you want your home, family and business to be safe.

Yes, sorry I neglected to include them. Thanks for pointing it out!

this is why we don't want any ones property taken away with force by the city. the city did it to us over here in maspeth and next we will have a new h.s.

mayor bloomass has to go, he's corrupting the city. someone called him the godfather i have to agree.

is there a way to find out how many properties our mayor owns in the tri-state, and how he got those properties?? i wonder how much he got on a deal price?

This is a distressing and worrying step in the wrong direction.

1.Overturning the public wishes is a political coup (and folks, commissioner of death and taxes doesn't cut it - call it for what it is - a political coup right out of the 3rd world)

2. rewriting history to satisfy fearless leader is not news, but the propoganda stunt found in a dicatatorship (NY1's clumsy efforts to brush out dizzy lizzy's selling the community down the river is something that you would expect the press to do in the soviet union.)

3. using storm troopers to wreck the lives of your oppostion is something you find in Nazi Germany.

Lets start using these words:

Mayor in Political Coup
Media under Fascist Dictatorship
Police as Storm Troopers

Politcally charged words designed to get attention.

Use them over and over and over again.

Then lets ramp up the rhetoric.

Artful Dodd-ger said...

I think that Missing has something.

It seems the only time the media spotlights Queens is to talk about a struggling immigrant success story, a struggling immigrant with tweeded needs, or some second rate hack doing a third rate job.

If it does not fit those images, then its not news.

We need to break the power of borough hall, or should I say, its puppeteers in the clubhouse.

Anonymous said...

Clubhouse Puppeteers.

Nice image. Lets use it.

Also, everytime the mayor comes out the Queens, we need people to dog him peppering him about his political coup questions while the cameras are running.

Now if he gets testy, then follow up are questions on why he is afraid of the public's wishes.

People, his image is so fragile. All that is needed is a few daring souls to stip it away while the cameras are rolling, and for him to go ballistic.

3rd world government for a 3rd world borough.

Note that the immigrants (legal and not so legal) say nothing about media censorship, political coups, removing city services, or using the uniform to grind the opposition under a jack boot.

This happens everyday in their cooontries. So what is the big deal?

A big reason why the machine wants Queens to be nothing but immigrants.

or as the machine coddled you so long YOU NO LONGER HAVE THE BACKBONE TO STAND UP FOR YOUR OWN RIGHTS?

and I don't mean bitching on a blog, but getting front of cameras and embaressing the shit out of them to their faces.

Its about time they started playing hardball. Reasonable offers were made and they should have been accepted. Sell now or have your property condemed and get nothing. Next thing is to send the INS DOL & OHSA down there. You can't fight city hall.

Queens Crapper said...

They were never made any offers. The last deal was made back on November 13th. Glad EDC is here making comments and providing us with their strategy in advance.

Seems that many people who read your blog are very supportive of Council Member Tony Avella for mayor. Avella does not get real estate donations (you know the maximum donations from wives, children, employees, etc.) and needs donations to survive this race. If you all mean what you say about Avella, please donate to his campaign. His voice needs to be heard. Give what you can, but please give. www.tonyavellaformayor.com I think there is a minimum of $10

How about Forest Hlls where Buk savages swing 20 tons of bricks over people homes on a Sunday ?

The cops are F_ing with the clients when the enter and exit the triangle as well.
Going as far as making up parking laws where 2 feet deep moon crators have replaced side walks.

----Checking, stickers, then tires, lights, statues on dashboards, crosses and beads hanging on rear view mirrors.
Anything they can makeup to hassle clients.
This happened to a couple friends of mine in the classic car club as well as myself.

Cops weren't much help when my neighbor tried to stop Verizon from removing telephone lines from my apartment and those of two other neighbors in express violation of Verizon policy (no phone turn-offs to paid up accounts without written instruction from the subscriber).

When he was forced to approach them to stop the sabotage and restore service removed as a result of landlord fraud from those, "Empty, under renovation apartments" that have been continuously inhabited by the same people throughout the last two to four decades the police were called.

Although my neighbor had returned to his apartment after getting service restored, he was ordered out and issued a citation for, "Disorderly group."

Cockeyed justice indeed. One may, I suppose see groups where only one exists if blind or blind drunk. And one may see defiance where only an attempt to save hearth and home exists if one has sold his soul to the facist state.

Because I was one of the affected neighbors I went with him to file a complaint and was abused by a civilian clerk who refused to give her name on being asked. A policeman approached ready to throw me into a cell if I dared take umbrage. Later, my neighbor's report disappeared and perhaps mine as well (for obvious reasons I delay dealing with them again.)

Signed, Lady whose ceiling hit her floor, but who intends to help some rich and powerful people to hit the deck soon.

Much of the problem stems from Bloomberg being a liberal, the NY press is liberal, the city Council is liberal and most of all the other elected officials, be them state or federal, are liberal. So even when you find an honest person to stand up and point out the corruption and mismanagement, no one hears them. This is how tyranny exists. The people are only told what they need to know. This election we need to vote for anyone who is new, either party, who has no machine backing. It is the only way to change the current status.

Anonymous said...

Bloomberg is not liberal, rather Fascist, Statist fits him to a tee. Please reference IG Farber's cosy relationship with Adolf Hitler, and Musolini's relationship with the far right in his country.

My father gave the best years of his life in the RAF fighting to protect the citizens of London from being killed by Hitler's strafing fighters. I recognize totalitarians when I see them.

Does Wilpon/EDC/Bloomberg and the rest of the goon squad really think that cleaning up WP will improve the Mets shitty playing?

Let those wealthy bastard pals of Bloomberg enjoy the view of the junkyards as well as the shit hole plays the Mets make from their sky boxes!

Then let the FBI check out Wellington Chen.

Is he the Asian bag man for illegal campaign contributions going back to the grande ol' days of "the Donald" Manes?

It wouldn't hurt to turn Myra Baird Herce on the rack too!

Maybe she might tell us an interesting tale.

lmao, just saw our great mayor bloomass on tv and he is trying the pitch he cares for all surrounding areas. bull shit then if you did you wouldn't let sca come here in maspeth and over kill us with yet another school. you wouldn't displace these folks in college point, why haven't you kept the area clean and put money in over there to give them the proper sewage systems and roads. lets not forget brooklyn, staten island and the bronx. this guy is so full of shit and he has to be reading the queens crapper and knows now we are not going to take this anymore. what does this man really have to hide??

Anonymous said...

Funny how when the likes of Tommy Huang is involved in a "building" project it takes the DOB forever to respond.

Yet Wilpon, the EDC and Bloomberg get express service at Willets Point!

And isn't it illegal for the NYPD to enforce the building code since the days of the Knapp Commission?

Suddenly they've become Fuhrer Bloomberg's own personal f-----g Gestapo!

tommy haung has destroyed so many communities in queens and gets away with it. he flips the houses and runs back to his country when someone is suing him. foundations on homes in bayside near the cross island have been destroyed. he tried to build illegal extra floors here in maspeth, and has a stop order on that site. lets not forget what he did in flushing, main street to the movie house. my question is why is he always allowed to continue his work in america? he needs to go away and stop flipping his company name under his family. he should be locked up already, why don't the city do more to get after him?

Paris, November 13, 1787
The "Tree of Liberty" letter
From Thomas Jefferson to William Smith

DEAR SIR, -- I am now to acknoledge the receipt of your favors of October the 4th, 8th, & 26th. In the last you apologise for your letters of introduction to Americans coming here. It is so far from needing apology on your part, that it calls for thanks on mine. I endeavor to show civilities to all the Americans who come here, & will give me opportunities of doing it: and it is a matter of comfort to know from a good quarter what they are, & how far I may go in my attentions to them. Can you send me Woodmason's bills for the two copying presses for the M. de la Fayette, & the M. de Chastellux? The latter makes one article in a considerable account, of old standing, and which I cannot present for want of this article. -- I do not know whether it is to yourself or Mr. Adams I am to give my thanks for the copy of the new constitution.

I beg leave through you to place them where due. It will be yet three weeks before I shall receive them from America. There are very good articles in it: & very bad. I do not know which preponderate. What we have lately read in the history of Holland, in the chapter on the Stadtholder, would have sufficed to set me against a chief magistrate eligible for a long duration, if I had ever been disposed towards one: & what we have always read of the elections of Polish kings should have forever excluded the idea of one continuable for life. Wonderful is the effect of impudent & persevering lying. The British ministry have so long hired their gazetteers to repeat and model into every form lies about our being in anarchy, that the world has at length believed them, the English nation has believed them, the ministers themselves have come to believe them, & what is more wonderful, we have believed them ourselves. Yet where does this anarchy exist? Where did it ever exist, except in the single instance of Massachusetts?

And can history produce an instance of rebellion so honourably conducted? I say nothing of it's motives. They were founded in ignorance, not wickedness. God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. We have had 13. states independent 11. years. There has been one rebellion. That comes to one rebellion in a century & a half for each state. What country before ever existed a century & a half without a rebellion? & what country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon & pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two?

*****The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. It is it's natural manure. ****

Our Convention has been too much impressed by the insurrection of Massachusetts: and in the spur of the moment they are setting up a kite to keep the hen-yard in order. I hope in God this article will be rectified before the new constitution is accepted. -- You ask me if any thing transpires here on the subject of S. America? Not a word. I know that there are combustible materials there, and that they wait the torch only. But this country probably will join the extinguishers. -- The want of facts worth communicating to you has occasioned me to give a little loose to dissertation. We must be contented to amuse, when we cannot inform.

-Thomas Jefferson.

Yes, and don't forget Jefferson sung a very different tune when he served as President. It is all very easy to advocate Revolution from the comfort of a warm living room, but the real thing causes injury, terror and death.

Let us all work feverishly to make sure this does not become necesssary.
