Assembly aide with criminal past busted again

POL AIDE IN $CAM BUST
By LAURA ITALIANO, NY Post

An aide to Queens Assemblywoman Vivian Cook (left)has been indicted on charges he stole $520,000 in a previous job as a temp for the city Health and Hospitals Corp., Manhattan prosecutors said yesterday.

Dennis Jones, 45, of Jamaica, Queens -- who has prior convictions for forgery and drugs from 1996 and 1989 -- pleaded not guilty to grand larceny and was held last night in lieu of $300,000 bail. He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Jones is accused of swiping the money between October 2001 and January 2006 while temping for the HHC's Construction and Maintenance Service department. His job was to prepare and organize the payroll paperwork for that department's employees, and officials said that he stole the half-million dollars by changing time sheets and forging payment requests.

Calls seeking comment from Cook's office in Queens -- where Jones has worked as a legislative aide since October 6, 2008, earning just under $1,000 a week -- were not immediately returned.

Forgery and drugs, a double-header. And this is the person they put in a sensitive job with access to people's private information.

When I work any job they want a full drug and criminal screening. Who was this bird related to and what favors were done in exchange?

So a record of criminal felony convictions is no obstacle for getting a job with Assemblywoman Vivian Cook?

Let me think deeply. OK; is the Assemblywoman a Democrat? Will she continue to pay him while detained? Oh! Yeah! She's a Democrat! Innocent until ...

Just forget about those priors. How much was he sharing with her?

Republican!

Now, what party has dominated politics in this city for decades?

What party controls NY corruption?

Well, there's always: "The white man made me do it" defense.

If that doesn't work, blame it on Twinkies.

Not exactly. Go back to night class and come back when you can answer your own question correctly, and when you can ask a question correctly.

Thanks for the lecture, Taxpayer. I have several college degrees.

You've heard of the three guys in the room in Albany? For twelve years, two of them were George Pataki and Joe Bruno.

What party were they?
Who made a lot of the decisions that have us in the mess we're in now?

What party line did Rudy and Bloomberg run on?

Which party is George W. Bush a member of?

You do realize that George W. Bush was president, and not in charge of the city or state, right? Or are you one of those who has to work him into every conversation you have?

Rudy and Mike both started off as Democrats. And Hillary at one time was a Republican. Maybe we should just come to a consensus that a politician of any stripe is generally a pig.

I do realize that about Dubya. My point was about what party he is a member of (a fact they don't seem too proud of a this point). I don't refer to him all of the time, though.

Your concluding point has a lot of truth to it.

Do you guys realize that none of them are any good regardless of the party? Our founding fathers frowned on political parties entirely because of the inherent risk of self-dealing.

It is time to start holding feet to the fire. Instead of party bickering, the voters need to be ready to throw all of them out. If someone is lousy who cares whether he is a Democrat or Republican?

"Thanks for the lecture, Taxpayer. I have several college degrees."

Lecturing fools is always frustrating, but, someone has to do the dirty work of enlightening the morons.

Again, as another poster commented, parties elect nobody. Individual citizen voters do the electing.

So, as your next assignment, learn and then write down the numbers of voters registered to each party in NY. Then report to us.

If you get it right, we'll give you a real degree from a real college. A degree that will make you proud. You can then take those other papers off the wall. Barber College, College of Astrology and Cosmetology are not all that impressive. But, you know that. Those girls who giggle when you show them told you that.

Taxpayer, its even worse than that. After he got all the numbers, he still would not know who would actually show up at the polls and how they would vote.

I am a lifelong registered Democrat who registered this way at the advice of my mother, a lifelong Republican. She advised me that being able to vote in the Democratic primaries was really what determined who led New York.

Guess what, I will swing vote if I don't like the Democratic candidate. Let's not be so blindly loyal. Let's hold all their feet to the fire and make them earn their positions.

Thanks again for your condescending comments, "Taxpayer" (gee. The rest of us arent"t?). You're so well educated. I feel so inferior to you.

I know exactly what the registration figures are. The point is that people need an alternative. The Republicans don't present that in the City. It's more of the same.

You have the attitude that the Republicans would do something different if they were in charge. As we see in this city with Bloomberg, and saw in the state with Pataki, nope.

And don't even start with Bush. We'll need decades to repair the damage he's done.

Anonymous,

Perhaps you mean ticket splitter rather than "swing" voter.

Ticket splitters select the people they judge to be the best choices at the time.

Never let a party dismiss you because you're in the tank for them or because you will never vote for them

As you said, make them work for you to get elected, and then keep working to remain in office. Never let your vote be predictable.

Playing hard to get works in romance, it definitely will work in politics.

If you judge a person to be honest and mainly represents your opinion on issues, vote for that person.

The moment they betray you, dump them like the traitor they are. Never forgive the traitors. Never accept the insult of a politician's or office holder's lies. Ever!

You mean the global financial mess?

We'll need decades to repair the mess that Clinton Housing Secretary and now NYS Attorney-General Andrew Cuomo did in pushing the sub-prime mortgages back in l990's.
