And the final vote tally on the Maspeth school was...

Council Members Crowley, Vacca, Avella, Ignizio, Ulrich, Oddo, Fidler, Vallone, Nelson and Mealy voted against the school. Everyone else voted yes.

Crowley could not even deliver the Queens Delegation. Great job Liz, this issue shows that you are no leader. At least we found this out before November.

Anonymous said...

Whatever happened to her powerful last name? She couldn't deliver the votes.

Anonymous said...

Nothing is by accident nor would the organization ever dis someone loyal with that last name.

She cut a deal.

She is just a pawn - a safe seat warmer. Your problem is with the organization.

I PERSONALLY THINK DIZZY LIZZY FOUGHT THE WRONG FIGHT, SHE SHOULD'VE TOLD THEM TO NOT BUILD IT. NOT ONLY DO WE GET THIS H.S. BUT THE SO CALLED KIDS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD WONT BE ABLE TO GET IN IT. STUPID PARENTS, STUPID COUNCIL WOMAN. YOU SHOULD HAVE TOLD THEM NO SCHOOL TO BEGIN WITH YOU ASSHOLES.......

Linda said...

Well good going lizzy and parents of maspeth. and i don't want to hear this all started before liz took office, blah blah blah... she did nothing to defend our community and against the racist mouths of Mr. Barron and Marge of "Big Six". so it doesn't surprise me in the least. Now Maspeth, Middle Village and Glendale what are you going to do now? this women is out of her mind she thinks she can make a difference, hello you didn't even stand up for us at the meeting when they called us a bunch of racist people. I'm so done with her and I don't even care about any opinions of hers, she won't get my vote.

linda said...

Oh and to council memebers Mr.Lui and others thanks for not defending us. i really thought Mr. Lui understood our concerns, but it's all about power, now i'm going to tell the asians down near 74 street that you voted yes to take the property. It was never a race issue and to take away someones right of owning and selling to who they want is wrong. NYC should not be allowed to pull this domain crap on anyone. I think now we all should go down to college point and stand up for them too!!! didn't really understand before but now I do, the city will do it to other communities too, you'll see. Sca was given alternative sites and they're going to take them too. Our mayor and city councils are all crooks.

Secede from New York City! Establish the Towns of Maspeth and Middle Village. You don't like the way things work? Get out of the city. Then you can do what you want.

Maspeth Bill said...

Avella stood with us...AVELLA FOR MAYOR!

Anonymous said...

Come November I'm proclaiming Election Day "TONY TIME." Time to vote for Tony Avella for Mayor and time to vote for Tony Nunziato for City Council. These people care about us. As for Ms. Crowley, I don't believe a word she says and I will tell anyone who will listen to me not to vote for her.

linda said...

lmao, it's amazing to hide under anonymous and think you can say what you feel, well smart ass try posting your name. and the people of maspeth, middle village and glendale don't need the trash of you coming to our town, so will stay.

Anonymous said...

The more you talk about Tony Avella for Mayor the stupider this blog becomes. No one in government takes this guy seriously. The Mayor of NY needs to be consensus builder, he needs to lead by gathering people to him. Tony is loner who doesn't get along with anyone. His personality is toxic.

I agree, if anyone wants an alternative to Bloomberg the Dictator, Thompson is the man.

Liz Crowley courageously stood up and said no to the school. Her colleagues face re-election this year and cannot be perceived as voting against a school. All you Liz Haters are Knee-Jerk reactionaries. Look at the facts. Liz did stand up. Liz took an unpopular position and she tried her best. The other electeds just looked out for themselves.

Anonymous said...

Democratic dictionary:

courageously stood up = made a deal

If we lost the vote it's because Elizabeth was for the school, chasing rainbows, looking for priority enrollment from the DOE, an accommodation that just doesn't exist in the year 2009 and she was told exactly that by the DOE. She didn't listen to her constituency who knew better and that's the reason for the loss.

She even ignored the CB5 vote on March 11th, the Resolution for the school with the several stipulations that CB5 voted for.

The issue was no school at any cost because of the oversaturation of schools with two other schools in close proximity, inadequate transportation, 4,000 kids on the residential streets at arrival and dismissal and the prowling school buses on the streets. That was the sum total of all our testimony on March 31st and that argument I thought seemed to resonate with the Committee on March 31st.

Forget her "good intentions" of having kids walk to school. That's from Oz and that's where Elizabeth belongs. She doesn't "get it!" She's history!

Anonymous said...

No YOU really don't get it.
Liz fought hard against the proposal as it stood. Coming up with these bogus theories just because you hate Liz DOES NOT CHANGE THE FACTS. Her colleagues did not want to vote against a school. This is a fact that could be used against them in upcoming elections. Try to get that through your brain.

Queens Crapper said...

The vast majority of them are running for their same seats. They are the hands on favorites to win and in most cases have no opponents.

Give me a fucking break.

Anonymous said...

Crapper - you just don't get it either - or you are just too stupid to know about City politics. Event Chris Quinn faces a tough re-election in her district. Your show of ignorance is overwhelming and makes you appear stupid. No elected official who fears re-election will vote against a school....period. Get it!!

Queens Crapper said...

If the school is not in their district, none of their constituents is going to give a shit. And YOU obviously don't know politics because incumbents are almost guaranteed re-election in this city. They voted this way because they are beholden to the UFT, Quinn and the mayor. They probably even requested permission from Quinn to vote no like they did on term limits.

Anonymous said...

Okay Crapper Dummy - Politics 101.
Herein begins the lesson stupid. So sit back, open your notebook and enjoy!
If you are running against an incumbent - YOU GO NEGATIVE. So, if they voted against a school siting in NYC, you say, they are anti-education. You use their record against them. You freakin' moron.

Queens Crapper said...

Who is running for re-election to their current seat that has a serious opponent?

Thank you.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, so if that were the case, then Vallone, Oddo, etc. would not have voted no.

I guess they disproved your theory.

Anonymous said...

Since no other schools had been torpedoed since 2002, a challenger would have a hard time making that argument work.

Anonymous said...

Two more morons trying to make sense. Look, as I said even Chris Quinn has serious opponents running against her. If you want a rundown of who is running against who....go to the Campaign Finance Board and check it out. Oh No.......... I just gave away a site you both know nothing about. The amount of sheer utter stupidity is staggering. This is politics baby, both of you grow up. Liz Crowley stood up and fought the good fight.
Good for her!!!

Anonymous said...

The New York City Council has never voted against a school. For a Council Member to do so would open themselves up to an opponent. I agree with the post. Liz Crowley is courageous.

Anonymous said...

Tony the Crapper Avella for garbage collector. Now there's a position he would be great at!

Anonymous said...

Why so jealous of avella?

Anonymous said...

This does make sense. Liz voted no and the other council members did not support her because they were afraid of their own asses.
Ok, I'll buy this now. Good for Lizz

Anonymous said...

Katz has land use. She knows how bad that school in Forest Hills is going to be for her area. She does not care about the Glendale, Middle Village, Maspeth area. What did she say she was going to run for?? However, she did get it zoned for FOREST HILLS!! Elizabeth stood up for the people, and not many others. YOU remember who voted for this school comes November!!!

Anonymous said...

Based on that alone, I will vote for Liz Crowley.

Queens Crapper said...

Oh how cute Liz's family is posting comments like crazy.

This is how it REALLY works in the City Council:

Bloomberg calls Quinn.
Quinn tells the council members how to vote.
Council members vote her way or risk getting shit on in the future.
If they want to save face with their constituents, they ask her for permission to vote no.

Liz Crowley is a dim bulb who fought for something that was futile. You don't open a can of worms by giving a certain neighborhood special privileges that others don't get.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, its true, Crappy never has anything good to say about Liz. She voted no, did what the people wanted, and she's still taking it from the crappie. Let's be fair for once.

Anonymous said...

I agree, "let's be fair" Enough Crappie, hand it to Liz. She fought the good fight and lost because of politics.

Anonymous said...

How many consecutive nasty moronic comments are you going to write? Liz fought for the teachers union and the PTA, not for Maspeth.

Anonymous said...

I seem to remember the Crapper being very fair towards Liz during her latest head-to-head match with Anthony Como. I guess he's supposed to praise Dizzy now until the end of time. These councilmembers need to be put in their place.

Wow it's nice to see that someone can read through the nasty messages to crapper and relize it's Liz, her staff and family members. and yes we lost a hospital and gained a school, but what good is the only one hosptial we got, when EMS won't be able to get to it. There will be so much backed up traffic on Grand avenue, that's right folks of Maspeth and let's not forget Ridgwood we won't be able to get anyone there in time. It's sad the city council did not give that any consideration on their decisions. Oh and lets not forget our great mayor Mr. Bloomberg, he can stop this right now! he can actually pull the plug on all of this, so why hasn't he defend our three communties? but bet your ass he'll be over here looking for votes. I'm so done with all the b.s. and again I won't vote for Liz and hopefully someone will step up for her seat and the mayor's seat and just be honest. Wow is that even possible?? and please if we do get a new mayor, please get rid of the staff, can't stand seeing Quinn up his ass anymore, another one that needs to go away. Let's not forget she was questioned about money. Mr. Bloomberg an apology won't be enough from that racist pig from Brooklyn he needs to be thrown off city council. Still amazed that this man was once a black panther and is on city council, lmao..... this city is a joke.

I heard Elizabeth Crowley speak last year. Frankly I don't know how you guys in Western Queens could vote for someone so uninspiring. She slurs her words, speaks with no authority and her sentences are filled with political clichés. When I heard her speak she could not finish a complete thought. It was more than embarrassing. I can see why the city council would not go along with her. I guess in some neighborhoods, the electorate votes with their asses and leave their brains at home.

Sorry to say that from here the voters in your district got exactly what they deserve.

Gallagher pushed for the high school.
So did Como.
Liz was just too dumb to stop it.

Anonymous said...

Please leave Dennis Gallagher alone.
Hasn't he suffered enough?

He was so desperate for a woman he actually raped a woman 9 years his senior.
He got thrown out of office in disgrace.
He's a penniless sex offender and an outcast in his own neighborhood.
His wife Donna ran off with a brother who unlike Dennis has a normal size package.
And Patrick is having a gay time through it all.

oh, I almost forget, he's being sued for millions.

OMG! how about the racist guy from brooklyn, he can be our next mayor! the city is shit now and he can blame it on the WHITE FOLK!

Anonymous said...

Crowley voted No. FACT! The SCA pushed this now because in an election year passing this is a sure thing.

This school started with Pinky. He screwed it up. Phony Tony Como screwed it up. It falls into Crowley's lap. She tried to fix something that was already broken.

Can we be FAIR please.

liz crowley is in the pocket of the construction unions, look it up. she made a deal. she really wanted the school but wanted it to appear that she was going to fight for local zoning but she knew early on that it wouldn't happen. katz and others coached her to make it appear that she fought for local zoning. guess what folks, she won, the high school will be built in maspeth. something she wanted all along.
hey maspeth, you lose, again. thank lizzy and the unions for that.

the way it works when the local council member is against the school the dept of ed backs off. liz crowley didn't try to get the city to back off of the maspeth site. as a result, the good people were handed all of the problems of a public high school with absolutely no benefit. few maspeth kids will get into this school thanks to the bloomberg admissions policy.

Anonymous said...

Although the rest of the Council generally votes the way the local council member votes on issues affecting their community, in this case we have found out that Council Speaker Christine Quinn has successfully lobbied the rest of the Council to vote in favor of the school in order to curry favor with the Bloomberg administration. Since the Speaker can and does make council members' lives miserable if they vote against her, most of the members are intimidated into going along with whatever she dictates.

This is how things are done behind the scenes in this city, and the residents are the ones who end up suffering.

Anonymous said...

wow we have a council person among us, so that's how it works? your afraid to go against quinn and the mayor? wow now that's real sad. i thought you guys were elected by the people of your district. so when barron screams race the mayor is afraid of him and a lawsuit? because i still don't understand how he could get away with such crap. explain that one, if your allowed to or do they stop you from speaking your mind too.

Maspethian said...

Reading the comments here, I wouldnt know how she voted. I didnt vote for her or Como. I couldnt even find a lesser of 2 evils. But I can't fault her for taking a stand and voting the right way. To indict her for not swaying the city council is kinda silly. Regardless of who pops is, she is not going to sway that group of miscreants.

Again, the usual gang of suspects here attack those who do the right thing. Next they will wonder why they are so marginalized.

...now I'm just waitin to be accused of bein her submissive love slave....

Maspethian said...

"Wow, 92 racists on Queens Crap!!"

Maybe its just 92 people who dont want another thousand children on the already overcrowded bus line they ride on to get to work.

Maybe some are business people who lose customers when hundreds of kids are standing in front of their establishments.

The easiest way to prove your ignorance and lose a debate is to accuse people of being racist w/o making a single cogent argument.

Anonymous said...

The Councilwoman who presides over the area votes against the school. The Community Board 5 that works with the area votes against the school. All of the local civic associations are very strongly opposed to the school. Local residents and businesses hate the idea. Parents that are wise to the situation realize that a high school built there will be a disaster. It appears that the only people who want the school are those with vested interest, such as the Board of Ed, or people that don't represent or live in the community.

Never before have I witnessed such a sham. The purpose of the Community Board is to thoroughly investigate items like this in a manner that other government officials cant. Their recommendations should be taken very seriously. It is obvious that once a powerful group like the Board of Ed decide to do something, then all of the appearances at Town Meetings and Community Board meetings trying to look like they are working with the community is just an act.

Mark my words-the 2 'huge' concessions that Walcott made regarding the number of student reduction and the smaller size of the building will not last. Having an extra 1000 teenagers, along with the supporting network of teachers, custodians, office staff, etc all leaving the building at about the same time will create havoc in the surrounding streets. And all this for a school that will not even be for the children that live in close proximity to the school.

What a mistake.

Queens Crapper said...

Actually, Leroy Comrie was chairing that meeting and should have censured Barron right then and there. But because Barron's aide Viola Plummer threatened to assassinate him a few years back, Leroy was probably reluctant to do so.

"Again, the usual gang of suspects here attack those who do the right thing. Next they will wonder why they are so marginalized."

Yes, marginalized by the marginal. To prove my point why are you here? And can you name a more popular blog that covers Queens? Jackass.

And as for those who you say "do the right thing," QC attacks those bureaucrats who are corrupt, incompetent, and just plain dumb. A good example are the last three council members that represented out town of Maspeth in the NYC Council.

Gallagher: Corrupt, sexual predator and perv
Como: Illiterate lifelong bureaucrat
Crowley: Dangerously dumb, represents special interests and NOT the community.

Anonymous said...

So Crowley voted "NO" on the Maspeth HS.

We're getting a large high school in an already congested area that according to her, our kids will have a 1 out of 20 chance of getting in.

Good work Liz! Keep working on ways to fuck up our neighborhood and then have your friends and family tell us what a great job you're doing.

Anonymous said...

Actually Dizzy Dyslexia Crowley didn't intend to vote "NO" on the high school. She thought she was voting "ON" the high school. Oops.

Anonymous said...

Hell this blog is fun.

hey boys and girls just learned that lizzy has an enviromental study of the maspeth area and it failed, so why hasn't the board or civic groups told about this? she screwed us royally with the school. it states impact of traffic would be added.

Elizabeth Crowley is in the council only because of her last name. She does not deserve it. At the recent January 30th hearing of the Council Consumer Affairs Committee, she came in like she owned the place and sat near the chairman. She is not on the committee! She gave a strong silent message to the carriage drivers. "Don't worry, guys. Joe [crowley] will take care of you. He promised Tom Manton on his deathbed. We do not care if you treat your horses like crap and drive them through traffic. We want you to stay and you will. We own NYC."

Tony Avella was amazing at the hearing. See this youtube video of him questioning the representative of the DCA who did not even know the rate charged by the drivers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iqyxZETMqQ

"The easiest way to prove your ignorance and lose a debate is to accuse people of being racist w/o making a single cogent argument."

Let's just say, for example, that Black Panther Barron, in an official capacity, on the taxpayer's dime, came out and accused all opposition to the school to be racists.

Let's just pretend that this is true. That he said that all he saw were white faces who wanted segregation.

Whoa! Wait! No pretend. He did day that. And then walked out of the room. Much like a drive-by shooter.

And, now get this! He NEVER made any argument, much less a cogent argument.

So, according to ignorant Anonymous, Black Panther (cop killer) Barron is IGNORANT!

Is that your point, Anonymous? Or, did you even have a point? Were you just ranting like a moron?

Here we go again. Only tax paid entities can violate First Amendment rights by censorship.

Your tax dollars are not spent on this site except by nervous tax paid employees.

Is it censorship when you yell at your noisy neighbor to turn down the volume?

But, you are quite wrong saying that Censorship is not Democratic (in fractured English).

It is the DEMOCRATS who want to re-institute the so called "Fairness" doctrine to eliminate opposition voices on the airwaves. Who's sensitive?
