What the hell is wrong with CB5 and Liz Crowley?

From the Daily News, re: the proposed Maspeth high school:

Crowley said she thinks the city can "compromise a little bit more." She said she presented a plan to Walcott on Monday to give first priority to [students from PS58*], then to students in Middle Village, Maspeth, Elmhurst and Glendale.

Community Board 5 approved the city proposal last Wednesday with the proviso that Crowley's plan and some other points be adopted.

When will these folks learn that you vote on a proposal as presented? Did the Willets Point vote debacle at CB7 not teach them anything? If you vote "yes", it doesn't matter if you had stipulations, your vote is still recorded as a yes. You will now get bupkus, as Mr. Walcott plainly stated in the article:

Walcott said the administration's plan is final. "We've been very accommodating with this particular project," he said, adding: "We have a responsibility for the borough and the city at large."

The City will do exactly what it wants to do there because the Council cares more about not pissing off the UFT and construction unions than it does about the quality-of-life of City residents. Crowley's proviso mentions nothing about alleviating the transportation problem in the area (overcrowded buses, no area subway and cars backed up for a mile at dismissal time now) or the fact that an 1100-seat school in the presence of 2 other schools within 4 blocks containing 3000 kids will overwhelm the area. Local kids aren't filling Maspeth's intermediate school, according to Crowley herself, so why is she ok with a huge high school in the community she represents? Her Chief-of-Staff sent this out in an e-mail to the community board:

"There is no traffic plan to address the longstanding traffic issues of the immediate community overburdened by the two existing schools.

The IS 73 feeder schools do not come close to filling the 1,700 6th, 7th and 8th Grade seats. As a result, students from outside the feeder schools are bussed in, creating an untenable traffic situation for the surrounding community.

This neighborhood's transportation infrastructure is already overburdened with the increase in traffic caused by PS 58. This new school, as identified in the DOE Environmental Assessment Form and Supplemental Environmental Studies Review, will add additional burdens to already over burdened local transportation arteries.

We have received no commitment from the DOE regarding any investment in capital funds to address transportation needs in the area."

Apparently this is no longer an issue for Crowley or the community board.

Thanks a lot CB5 (also the only community board in the City that regularly and moronically puts already fully-funded projects on its funding priorities list for the following year)!

CB5: The community board from purgatory.

If you want to see what SCA would like to inflict on the eastern end of Maspeth, take a look at these photos. Maybe they can name the new high school "Grover Cleveland East." And what's with all the concrete in front of the school in the above rendering? Isn't the City supposed to be going "green"?

Now come on you know liz and gary from community 5 don't live in maspeth, so why should they really care if a school goes up off of grand avenue. oh that would be a half a block from PS 58 and two and half blocks from IS 73. Hey we were promised at one time when IS 5 was being built it would take the burden off IS 73, well both schools are still overcrowded. Listen up liz and community 5 we need change and it starts with you. We don't need or want another school flowding our community and I'm sure the seniors have a lot more to say about this and your jobs. We are tired of being crapped on in Maspeth and your suppose to be here for us, well i'm not feeling the love.

It will take the Q 58 or 59 at LEAST 1/2 hour to get from the stop across from Pioneer on Grand Ave to get to the subway station on Queens Boulevard. AT LEAST. Grab your walkin shoes folks!!

A good 30% of the people on the bus should be deported. Probably more, but I am guessing that at least 1/2 of the people on the bus have legal citizenship. I am a kind optimist.

So, the city is takin its knives to those who drive.

Tax, spend, toll, fee.
Where is the notion - that -WE WILL SPEND LESS!!!!

What's the point of this artical? Are you try to pressure the residents to flee? I hate the idea of a highschool being built there - what are you suggesting be dnone by residents other than which students from what areas will be seated there???? So what - I know what will happen - my house an property will be trashed - I can't sell - but I can become a liberterian and espouse buying a big shotgun to protect our properties! What do you want us to go out and do?

Queens Crapper said...

Duh. I am suggesting you pressure Liz and the Council to say no. They are all up for election or re-election this year. Sad to see you have thrown in the towel already.

Anonymous said...

no need for a shotgun it's not worth going to jail. what you can do as a property owner is protest and expressed your thoughts to city council on wednesdday at the meeting. call and complain to liz and gary at community board 5. we need to speak out real loud so they get the message.

Anonymous said...

Can't wait til this starts happening in Maspeth.

Anonymous said...

School Construction Authority can't afford to be embarrassed by building a school no one wants especially during the "Budget cuts". Some vocal demonstrations by outraged residents of Maspeth will go a long way in helping to stop this school from being built.

If this is how you feel, then maybe you should resign en masse from the community board in protest. Seriously. Why waste your breath if the rest of the body isn't going to listen?

I am not on the community board. I am one of the people in the community who happens to agree that this is a really stupid thing to do. Money that should be going toward projects in our neighborhood is instead going to another one.

Anonymous said...

For generations, there has not been a HS in this part of district 24. We need one. It should be zoned for kids in maspeth, mv, glendale and ridgewood.

What wrong with Crowley? Nothing. She is fighting for this community. The community board is the issue not Crowley.

I am a voter and come November I am voting for Crowley. She is doing an excellent job!

Anonymous said...

THE PROBLEM COULD BE SOLVED IF YOU LOCALLY ZONE PHONY TONY COMO'S HOUSE. IT COULD HOLD AT LEAST 1100 STUDENTS.

DOES IT HAVE ITS OWN ZIP CODE??

Liz is being treated unfairly in this article. CB 5 voted Yes. she is going to do what the community wants to do. Apparently they want the school

QUESTIONS FOR COUNCIL MEMBER ELIZABETH CROWLEY:

Why would Crowley advocate for a school at this location with 2 other schools in close proximity? The traffic situation is horrendous as it is and this cannot be mitigated. Is this not a concern for her?

Why would Crowley advocate for a 1,100-seat locally zoned school at this location when Maspeth and Middle Village do not have enough children to fill it, requiring kids to inundate Maspeth by taking the bus from other neighborhoods, with the buses on Grand Avenue already operating over capacity?

Why would Crowley advocate for a 1,100-seat school when smaller schools have been proven to be more ideal?

Considering the detrimental effect this will have on the surrounding community, why isn’t Crowley advocating for the alternate location at 55-02 Broadway which SCA feels is a feasible site and is located in a community from which more of the children will come?

Queens Crapper said...

"For generations, there has not been a HS in this part of district 24. We need one. It should be zoned for kids in maspeth, mv, glendale and ridgewood."

And that won't happen. The Mayor's rep said so. So Liz should say no to it instead of pandering to PTA moms and the UFT.

Don't you people see that this is all a sham? Crowley is going to vote yes with proviso and get her council cronies to do the same. The SCA is just going to do what it wants to do anyway and its us who will be fucked.

Anonymous said...

Of course the Community Board wants the school. 80% of them don't live in Maspeth and that was done intentionally.

Anonymous said...

Question: what if it were a private high school being built by the Diocese of Brooklyn? Would you guys be against it, too?

Anonymous said...

YES if it was 1,100 seats. Private school kids overburden public transportation too.

Anonymous said...

I agree. Crowley is going a great Job.

Go Crowley!!!!

Anonymous said...

"This community needs a HS. Not everyone can afford private school."

And you won't be getting one for this community. It will just be located in this community which is already overburdened with 2 other schools in close proximity. Didn't you read Walcott's statement? High schools are open to all NYC residents. So your kid can go to any of the hundreds of high schools in the city without you paying. The idea that kids from Glendale and Ridgewood are going to walk down the street to this school as Crowley is suggesting that her kids will do is a crock of shit.

Why are you all in favor of a 1,100 seat school when stats prove they are less successful than smaller schools anyway?

Queens Crapper said...

Obviously this community doesn't need a high school if there aren't aren't enough kids to fill the middle school.

Anonymous said...

Crappy, dont you want to attract young families to this area??

You cant take it with you!

Anonymous said...

Does anyone have grandkids????

Anonymous said...

Do you folks still not understand that this is going to be a themed school and not a general high school and that your kids probably won't be interested in the trade they offer? So we should invite this into the area so 10 kids from Maspeth can go there?

Queens Crapper said...

If this high school is built, not only will you not attract young families to Maspeth, but the long time residents will leave and you'll have absentee landlordville. No one wants to live near a public high school. Take a look at the photos.

Anonymous said...

I don't understand why they don't build the school near a subway station if they expect all of Queens to attend. There are so many large vacant lots along Queens Blvd and there is a site in Woodside that is supposedly on SCAs alternate site list that is near the R train. It seems unfair to burden a two-fare zone with another high school.

Anonymous said...

Yeah good point about the themed schools. SCA never stated what kind of school this will be outside of that 100 seats will be for special ed. You folks are going to feel really stupid when they put a specialty school here and your kid wants to go to Bowne or Townsend instead. Then all the whining about your kid having the right to walk to school instead of - God forbid - taking the bus at the age of 15 will have been for naught.

Anonymous said...

"Does anyone have grandkids????"

What the hell does this have to do with siting a school at this location? Do your grandkids come over and spray paint your house? When they visit you do they do so with a pack of 30 other kids and knock you over while you are trying to go to the store? Or prevent you from boarding a bus?

Anonymous said...

I have lived in this community for almost 10 years. Liz is doing a great job. Come November i am going to vote for her.

Anonymous said...

Well good for you. I am voting for her opponent if this school is built.

Anonymous said...

You notice they don't dare try to site a school in Middle Village. And the ones who howl the loudest for it to be built all seem to come from there and it won't be built in time for their kids to go to it. Those folks should advocate for it to be built next door to them.

Anonymous said...

NO MORE PHONY TONY COMO!!!!

Anonymous said...

Crowley stated to me, and I quote: "Would you rather it be a Home Depot?" To which I responded, "Home Depot is closing stores, so that would never happen, and you seem to have this site confused with the Gas Tank park which will now be destroyed by out of town high schoolers." Why is Liz in favor of a 1,100 seat school when stats prove they are less successful than smaller schools anyway?

Anonymous said...

Why don't Liz and CB5 advocate for a smaller school? We still won't have enough kids to fill a 600 seat school, so kids from other nabes can still go to school here if they want.

Anonymous said...

Good one Crappy!

Anonymous said...

This district needs another HS. Do any of you have children?

Queens Crapper said...

The district extends all the way out to LIC and Corona. A district school can be built anywhere. Other sites that do not experience the transportation problems that this site does have been suggested. And these are in areas where there are more kids and an adequate transportation system - more logical locations for a school.

Anonymous said...

And 69% of Maspeth and 73% of Middle Village households (1 and 2 family homes) don't have kids. Doesn't it make more sense to site the school in denser communities where more than 50% of households have kids?

Anonymous said...

crowley is doing a fine job? what exactly is she doing? i recall when she was running for the seat she was always in maspeth ringing bells for support and making promises, that she would be here for us. well i don't see it now and come NOV. i'll remember that more if a school is built here. we already have problems with traffic, teachers, parents and out of town children with no respect for our elderly. VOTE "NO" to the school liz and community board, oh let's not forget land usage.

Anonymous said...

The community board voted Yes.

Anonymous said...

If this high school is built, not only will you not attract young families to Maspeth, but the long time residents will leave and you'll have absentee landlordville. No one wants to live near a public high school. Take a look at the photos.
--------------------------------
What if you don't build the high school? How are you going to get young families into this neighborhood if all the other public schools are overcrowded? The only option is Christ the King, which is private. Not every working/middle class family can afford to send their kid to a private high school. They've got to go somewhere. They can't go to Grover Cleveland and Newtown because they're packed to the rafters. Other high schools are located miles away. So why would a young family want to stay in Middle Village or Maspeth if they can't afford a private school and the nearest viable public high school is more than a mile away?

And as for the families who are here, what incentive are you giving them to stay for generations to come? You've all but said that their opinions don't count and they don't belong in this community. What will become of the housing stock when all the seniors and baby-boomers in Middle Village and Maspeth either die off or move away? Unless you guys plan on living forever, chances are that the neighborhoods will begin to decay and decline-- maybe not today and maybe not tomorrow, but soon. Tell me how you plan on keeping this community the way it is if you can't bring in a new generation to take your place.

Anonymous said...

Community board voted yes, omg what the hell is wrong with gary and the board. they know the traffic issues on grand avenue and complaints from the elderly about the children from IS 73, so again what the hell are they thinking. I guess gary and his staff don't live around here so why should they care. another school will flood our community and if you think traffic is an issue now wait till those high school kids start driving at 16. what is it going to take an accident with a younger child to finally get it. there are other sites to consider and 74 street is not it. There is an empty store on queens blvd and 57 avenue opposite of School of Rock, put the school there. It's close to the train and buses. Enough already with this. Oh and to teachers union NO WE ARE NOT GIVING UP OUR NEW PARK FOR A SCHOOL OR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO HANG OUT IN.

Anonymous said...

HEY EVERYONE LET'S BUILD THE SCHOOL NEXT TO THE ONE WHO THINKS IT'S A GREAT IDEA TO BRING MORE FAMILIES INTO OUR COMMUNITY. ARE YOU KIDDING, IF THE SCHOOL WAS BUILT NEXT TO YOUR HOME THEN YOU WOULD UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEM. TEACHERS START AT 7AM FLYIING UP THE STREETS LOOKING FOR THAT PERFECT PARKING SPOT, SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO WALK FAR. THE SCHOOL BUSES TIE UP TRAFFIC ON GRAND AVENUE AND THE PARENTS ALSO WITH THEIR CARS. WE HAVE ENOUGH STUDENTS COMING INTO OUR COMMUNITY, AS THE CITY STATED FROM THE POOER NEIGHBORHOODS, THEY SAID THAT NOT ME. BUILD SMALER CHARTER SCHOOLS WHERE THE DAMAND IS THE GREATEST AND CALL IT A DAY ALREADY.

Anonymous said...

From what I read, Liz is really fighting for us. She has been battling bloomberg for priority zoning. In November, I will vote for her. She cares about working families.

Anonymous said...

"What if you don't build the high school? How are you going to get young families into this neighborhood if all the other public schools are overcrowded?"

How are we getting young families here now? How did we in the past? Your question is nonsense. People don't move into a community for the good high schools. They do it for the elementary schools. When your kid is ready for high school he is old enough to leave the community for a day.

"Not every working/middle class family can afford to send their kid to a private high school. They've got to go somewhere."

We don't seem to have a problem finding a place to send our kids now. Either we pay to send them to a private school or they take the bus to a better public school. "Over a mile away" - please. They aren't babies and can take the bus by themselves.

People have lived in Maspeth generation after generation and they will continue to in the future. But only if it is kept livable by this generation and this entails not siting a public high school at 74th Street and 57th Avenue.

And once again, Grover Cleveland is across the street from Maspeth. Apparently Maspeth, Middle Village, Glendale and Ridgewood can't fill that school, either, because there are more kids from Brooklyn in it than from Queens.

Anonymous said...

To the guy who wants the charter schools, blame the community board. They vote yes.

Anonymous said...

"This school is just the right size for the children of this neighorhood to fill it."

No, you seem to be missing the point. Crowley herself said that there aren't enough kids to fill the middle school. So there definitely aren't enough to fill the high school.

The City already said that the school will not be locally zoned and your kid will be sent to Cleveland anyway.

Anonymous said...

My child is not going to Cleveland. because there is not HS I am going to pay.

What is your plan?

Anonymous said...

I am sending my kid to Catholic school because they provide a safer environment and a better education. I don't care if I have to work 3 jobs to send him there, I care about my kid's future, not my bottom line.

Anonymous said...

I read that the city promised that the school will be zoned for district 24.

If you can't afford to educate your kids in NYC (the public school system sucks and you must pay to teach them well) then perhaps you shouldn't have them.

Anonymous said...

"I read that the city promised that the school will be zoned for district 24."

You read wrong. The City said priority will be given to Districts 24, 27 and 28 which means the overflow from other high schools gets taken care of first. It doesn't mean that only kids from 24 will go to the school.

And all of you pro-schoolers seem not to give a damn about the traffic or transit situation that the people in the neighborhood and the merchants will have to endure. So selfish. And unfortunately you reproduced.

Anonymous said...

thank god your parents did because you wont be here. Then this blog would not have your wonderful prose.

Anonymous said...

At New York City's selective public high schools like Bronx Science, Stuyvesant and Townsend Harris, the number of students heading off to college is close to 100 percent. This is where Maspeth/Middle Village people who care about their kids want them to go to school. Not down the block because it's convenient.

Anonymous said...

No. I read prority for 24 then the others.

Anonymous said...

Yes, exactly, priority for 24 - Cleveland, Newtown, etc. overflow has to be taken care of first. Then we get to your kid. So you will be sending him to school with kids who more than likely read below their grade level because both those schools have poor passing rates.

So I guess the residents of Maspeth want their own altas park.

Commerical Space will cause more problems then the school.

Anonymous said...

they wanted to put a bowling alley there. can't do it because the city wants it and that's that. Walter Sanchez ran the last bowling alley into the ground, now he's just running Maspeth into the ground with the community board.

Anonymous said...

"Schools open at 7 and close at 3. Everyone is gone by 3 depending on the day."

Wrong. Most high schools in the City have 2 shifts and are open at night. And most people in Maspeth are on the road at 7am on their way to work and coming home in midafternoon. That's how a blue collar community operates.

Anonymous said...

So the people of Maspeth want retail space instead of a school. Interesting!!

I agree with the last blogger that retail space causes more traffic congestion then a school. If you dont beleive me, take a drive down metro near the Trader Joes, Home Depot, Sports Authority location.

I think every community in the city would welcome a small high school (200-400 students) for their own neighborhood. They are smaller and would be easier to site. The linked article is a bit misleading in it's use of photos.

The last 9 pics depict spray paint vandalism, if the claim is that most of the students are/will be bussed-in, it is unlikely that graffiti came from them.

I have been to most of the areas of Queens and you can see this vandalism everywhere.

As for the crowds depicted, you ought to see what it looks like around schools here in Manhattan, but those crowds only last a half hour at the most, generally it's only 15-20 min -everyone wants to get home.

Queens Crapper said...

I find this not to be true. Kids tag near schools so their peers see it. Graffiti is 10X worse in the vicinity of Newtown and Cleveland than throughout the rest of the neighborhoods they are in. I have walked both extensively.

People shouldn't be captive in their own homes or have 30 minutes tacked onto their commute from one end of town to another because school is letting out.

Anonymous said...

True, the kids that are bused in tend to be the ones that are up all night spray painting. They've caught so many kids from other neighborhoods, Brooklyn, etc. vandalizing in the 104th precinct, it's unreal.

Anonymous said...

Crappy, if local kids went to the school it would not be as bad as you think.

Queens Crapper said...

But they aren't. If this were a smaller school, taking kids from CB5 feeder schools first and transportation was augmented, I would have no problem with it. In fact, I would be the first person advocating for it. But this is not going to happen. I've lived in this city long enough to know how things operate and that community input means very little. And it really is sad.

As to the previous suggestion...I think small community-based high schools are a fantastic idea. If we were talking about a 400-seat high school with added buses for the kids, I would be all for it too.

Unfortunately, Crappy is right; that will never happen.

I think Christ the King has 2 floors that it is not using that a public high school could use. Maybe a charter school. It could take the burden off Ridgewood because there is a subway right next to it.

HEY EVERYONE, SOMEONE TOLD ME TODAY THAT FOREST HILLS ARE GETTING A NEW HIGH SCHOOL, WHICH IS LOCALLY ZONE. SO HOW IS THAT IF A LAW WAS PAST. I GUESS YOU HAVE TO A A BIG PULL WITH THE MAYOR AND THE RICH FOLKS WHO SUPPORT HIM. YOU NEVER HEAR ABOUT FOREST HILLS, WHITESTONE, BAYSIDE, LITTLE NECK, GREAT NECK AND DOUGLASTON HAVING THIS ISSUE. I KNOW FOR A FACT MY SON HAD TO PUT DOWN BAYSIDE H.S. AS A CHOICE AND HE WAS ACCEPTED THROUGH HIS GRADE AVERAGE IN MATH AND SCIENCE. WE HAVE TO DO THIS AND NOT BE LOCALLY ZONED, BS.. WHY IS IT THAT SPECIALIZED SCHOOLS ARE BUILT IN CRAPPY NEIGBORHOODS, WHICH YOU DON'T WANT YOUR CHILD TO TRAVEL TO (LIKE SCHOOL OF CONSTRUCTION). BUILD THE SCHOOL DOWN NEAR QUEENS BLVD. WHERE THERE'S PLENTY OF BUSES AND TRAINS FOR THEM TO TRAVEL AND STOP DUMPING ON US HERE IN MASPETH.

A high school will annoy Bob Holden and Lorainne Sciulli, who don't have school-age children, so the hell with the rest of the neighborhood. Hypocrites.

It's amazing how many people don't get it already. The reason we don't want the school is that we are over crowded with schools ranging from public elm. school off 57 avenue in elmhurst, saint adalberts ,ps 58, is 73, saint stans, and martin lutherian h.s.. there are enough schools off grand and 57 avenue. sca has be given alternative sites and they need to look further into it. Gary from community board knows of the complaints in maspeth and he should be on our side and not voting yes to any school. our mayor faught for us to get this park for the seniors who lived here and not for a bunch of h.s. kids to hang out in. everyone should rally together to opposite this site and attend the meeting on wednesday. i really hope and pray that our community can become what it was 22 years ago. when i moved here it was a clean community and i'm not seeing it anymore. everytime i walk up grand avenue the store fronts do not clean and tiger god bless his soul isn't here to do it.

the people asking for a school in Maspeth are racist archie bunkers who don't want their kids going to hispanic neighborhoods to get an education

FOR THE PERSON WWHO SUGESSTED WE IN MASPETH ARE RACISTS, WELL MY SON IS HISPANIC AND HE HAD TO GO OUT OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD FOR H.S.. HE HAS LONG GRADUATED COLLEGE AND IF HE WERE OF AGE FOR H.S., I STILL WOULD BE AGAINST THE H.S.. MASPETH IS WAY TOO OVER CROWDED WITH SCHOOLS PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

Queens has 70 high schools, 26 zoned for local students. Since 2002, however, the administration has locally zoned only one high school - due to a previous commitment - which is now being built on Metropolitan Ave. in Forest Hills.

explain this one to me. if there is no more locally zoned schooling how is it then forest hills were allowed. it should also apply to them, the school isn't even completed yet. take off the restrictions on that school and send the children there. it's not fair that forest hills can have it but the rest of the city cannot. only the better neigborhoods get it, like whitestone, bayside, and so on.. enough already build the school in corona where it's needed the most. or how about this city council don't charge us home owners school tax. especially when we have to pay for private schools. wow this will get everyone in a up roar, what's the matter you don't like that i don't want to pay for your children. hey try getting one or maybe two jobs. the population of children that would be coming here is not from our surrounding neighbors, it's from the other side of corona and yup i don't want them, most are here illegal and don't pay into our taxes, so i say go back home.

hey will need more police officers here in maspeth when the school goes up, wait a minute we don't have cops, there all in ridgewood. our cops are not pigs but lesbians, they don't do dick.

so gary and the rest of you bastards stop dumping on maspeth community and make a stand for us.

Anonymous said...

The post above makes sense - no school should be built and if we cracked down on illegal aliens then we would not have over-crowded school districts and we would have much smaller classroom sizes like schools upstate do.

How about a dog run?

This is a transportation nightmare in the making, and it is a big hit on the neighborhood. There is no reason here, no thought. New high schools should be built near transportation nodes/hubs. Subway stops--without bus connections necessary. We have all been captives on buses filled with dirty-mouthed teens. Nightmare. And yes, grafitti and other problems ensue--dense sidewalks, garbage, etc. In Manhattan they are building schools in collaboration with housing--see 57th St School of Design. WHY was this site ever picked? Who owned this site? Who got paid off? Example: The property on Metropolitan Ave. in Forest Hills was an $18 million payoff to someone. This school will congest an already congested neighborhood. Our streets are alredy overburdened. Build high schools near subways.

LOCALLY ZONE PHONY TONY COMO'S HOUSE. HIS HOUSE COULD HOLD 1100 STUDENTS.

Queens Crapper said...

Yes, thanks for making my original point even clearer by repeating that multiple times. They voted yes (with stipulations) when they should have voted no because their stipulations will never be implemented.

what a hot issue!!

Can the dog run people stop!

Anonymous said...

Instead of a school, build a dog run.

Anonymous said...

Put the dog run at the gas tank site and put the bowling alley at this site. Build the school near the subway if you want all of Queens to have access to it. Everyone wins.

Anonymous said...

whats up with the dog run?? the park was build for the seniors in this community, after living here all these years staring at gas tanks. we don't need a dog run, a soccer team or anything else. it was built for sitting and enjoying the beauty it will become. not a hang out for h.s. kids. maspeth had a bowling alley and walter let that go to waste and lets not forget he also screwed his workers, by not paying them, i still don't understand how he got away with that. don't need him running anything anymore,oh wait he's on land committee, watch out maspeth.

I have been around this political stuff in this area a long time. In the last election I voted for Como.

With that said, it is unfair to say what the hell is wrong with Liz. She is not on the executive board of CB 5. She does not control what Cb 5 does.

I wonder why the article is titled that way. Maybe it is a set-up so nuziato has something to run on in November. Could Nuziato be the the republican candidate in November. Time will tell.

Anonymous said...

you voted for phony tony como!! what a waste of a vote!

Queens Crapper said...

"it is unfair to say what the hell is wrong with Liz. She is not on the executive board of CB 5. She does not control what Cb 5 does."

Another public school graduate I see. The reason the article is titled that way is because Liz admitted that there are not enough kids in the area to fill a middle school, let alone a high school, yet size doesn't seem to be an issue for her. She also admits there is a transportation problem but put nothing in her proviso that called for augmented public transportation to the school. The CB did the same exact thing.

i see in the title what the hell is wrong with cb5 AND liz crowley.
where does it state she's on the board?? no where you idiot.

If this high school is built, I urge everone in Maspeth and Middle Village to vote Ms. Crowley out. Most people in the area DO NOT want the high school. The area is already saturated with too many schools. The transportation is a major issue as well. Please urge the powers that be to consider the alternative site on 55th street, which is very close to the Northern Boulevard train station. Most of the teens would come from that area anyway. Liz Crowley better stop kissing up to the Teacher's Union and start kissing up to her constituents. It's time to shake up the community board as well. What were they thinking when they voted for this?

Anonymous said...

They were thinking, "If I vote for it to be put here, they won't build it near my house!"

Anonymous said...

Here's something to ponder. The area may "need a high school", as some assert, however, why does it need two? SCA says it is going to put two 500-seat high schools in this one building. Why is out of the way Maspeth with its crappy bus service expected to be the site of two high schools? Why aren't Crowley or the Community Board asking these questions?

Anonymous said...

Why don't they build senior housing there? Maspeth and Middle Village certainly have the population for it. Seniors can't afford the high rents in the area. We could provide affordable housing. You wouldn't have to worry about parking because most seniors don't drive. It would also be close to Stop & Shop and the other stores. We don't have kids to fill this school, but we do have seniors. Why jam up traffic with cars, school buses and kids? Build the school where there are kids. Please consider the alternative site. It is closer to trains and buses.

Just starting to hear the faint cry
of "I'll be back ". What perfect timing ?

Anonymous said...

The JPCA "leaders" did a study that 79% of Middle Village and Maspeth residents don't own dogs, so they say that we don't need a dog run . . .

Anonymous said...

Lets build a Texas size bar and brothel. As ugly as Maspeth women can be, it might give Maspeth men some respite. Would be excellent for the local economy, morale and no school kids! Sounds like a win-win.

Anonymous said...

wow, you are the ugly person not the women in maspeth. you must not have a man and that's why your lashing out at us beautiful ladies of maspeth. get over yourself and get laid already!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

If this school is built I'm voting against all of the politicians. We in Maspeth are always getting dumped on while the other communities get the nice things like parks and trees.

How about fighting for Maspeth for a change Ms. Crowley?

Anonymous said...

Crowley thinks living with 15 people in a small house is normal.
She probably wants two more schools at that location. Old
Mother Hubbard doesn't know what to do.

Anonymous said...

Put a high school where it is needed and where there are an abundance of children who would attend it. Put it on Queens Boulevard or Northern Boulevard, where there are more than 2 lanes of traffic. Put it where it would be accessible by train (subway or 7 line) and numerous buses (not the 58 or 59 which runs sporadically). Where is the city planning commission? Wake them up and make them plan neighborhoods appropriately. Oh, by the way, special thanks to Principal Tripoli of P.S.58 who clued the SCA in about the property in question. She wanted to add a 7th and 8th grade to her school so it would be K-8. I guess she didn't see the high school coming. She doesn't care -- she lives in Valley Stream, Long Island.

Anonymous said...

Why would she want to do that when IS73 is down the street?

Anonymous said...

"The JPCA "leaders" did a study that 79% of Middle Village and Maspeth residents don't own dogs, so they say that we don't need a dog run . . ."

FAINT CRY OF I'LL BE BACK AND WHO WOULD THAT ACTUALLY BE???

THE FEW PARENTS WHO ARE CRYING THAT THEY DON'T WANT THEIR DARLINGS TAKING TWO BUSES TO LIC HS OR OTHER AREAS OF NYC... MY SON HAS TO TRAVEL AND SO WHAT. WE DON'T NEED ANOTHER SCHOOL HERE TOO MANY PROBLEMS ALREADY, BETTER YET WHY DON'T WE BUILD THE SCHOOL NEXT DOOR TO THE EX PRESIDENT OF PS 58. AND THEN HER VERY SMALL GROUP CAN GO TO SCHOOL AND SHIT SHE WOULD JUST HAVE TO OPEN THE DOOR NOW THAT WOULD BE GREAT, SHE CAN HAVE ALL THE BUSES LINING UP NEXT TO HER HOME, OH AND LETS NOT FORGET ALL THE LAZY PARENTS DRIVING UP TWO BLOCKS TO DROP OFF THEIR CHILDREN. GET OVER IT ALREADY WE DON'T WANT ANY SCHOOL IN THIS OVERCROWDED AREA. SO I GUESS TRIPOLI WON'T BE GETTING THE PROMOTION.

Anonymous said...

SO HOW IS PS 58 STAFF GOING TO GET OUT OF THIS MESS THEY STARTED. YOU KNOW NO ONE REALLY LIKES TRIPOLI, EVERYONE TALKS ABOUT HER, HOW SHE'S ON MEDS AND HOW SHE NEVER LETS THE CHILDREN OUT TO PLAY WITH THE NICE EQUIPMENT. SHE PULLS INTO HER PRIVATE PARKING SPOT JUST BEFORE 8 AM AND HAS NO CLUE WHAT'S GOING ON OUTSIDE HER SCHOOL. PARENTS LINE UP DOUBLE PARK IN THE FRONT ENTRANCE FOR THE FREE BREAKFAST FOR THEIR CHILDREN, WHICH IS A TOTAL MESS IN THE MORNING THEN YOU COME AROUND TO GRAND AVENUE AND THE BUSES ARE OUT OF CONTROL HOLDING UP TRAFFIC ON BOTH SIDES OF THE AVENUE. SCA SHOULD OF LISTEN TO THE COMMUNITY BACK THEN WHEN WE WANTED A DROP SECTION SO IT WOULDN'T TIE UP GRAND, BUT AGAIN THEY DON'T CARE. I REALLY HOPE CITY COUNCIL VOTES AGAINST THIS BECAUSE THEY KNOW OF THE COMPLAINTS IN THIS AREA. DOES NOT TAKE BRAINS TO FIGURE THIS ONE OUT.

Anonymous said...

Tripoli wanted the Restaurant Depot property to house 7th & 8th grade so she could have her school a K-8 school. She's a control freak and CONTROL is the name of the game. She wanted to own this school and kiss up to the district. Little did she know what a can of worms she opened up. She lives in Valley Stream, so since it didn't work out for her, she doesn't give a damn about the property anymore. She should be worried. What will happen when her younger students are being harassed by high school students. Those kids will be swinging on her school yard playground equipment, just like the junior high school kids. She's going to have some serious security problems on her hands. How will she impress the district now?

Anonymous said...

lmao, not enough med's for her. omg that would be so funny to see her have a total melt down. enough of her and her singing too. she never lets the children play on the equipement afraid of somone getting hurt, well at least someone will get use of it.
lmao!!!!!!!!
