Report: Foreclosures = crime increase

From the Daily News:

Foreclosures in Queens are leaving behind abandoned homes that become prime targets for thieves and havens for squatters, a new report shows.

The only Queens areas where crime rose between 2006 and 2008 - Jackson Heights, Kew Gardens/Woodhaven, Jamaica/Hollis and Rockaway/Broad Channel - had high foreclosure rates, says the study unveiled Thursday by the advocacy group ACORN.

Crime dropped in just two high-foreclosure neighborhoods, South Ozone Park and Queens Village. But it dipped in all eight low-foreclosure areas, including Astoria, Flushing and Forest Hills.

I starting to hear more and more about robberies in my area. Very scary.

Exactly what does this "advocacy" group called ACORN advocate?

Just wondering.

With all the advocating, what have they actually accomplished?

Anything good and useful at all?

Yes I believe our president got his start there and they recently came under scrutiny for participating in voter registration fraud.

"NRA.org!"

As worried as I am about any increase in crime, I really don't think that's the answer.

Right on. Knowing stuff is hard work... much too hard to do the research oneself.
This is the problem we face now and into the future in America. Too many loudmouths out there with big (undereducated) opinions but too lazy to look up information and basic facts themselves. Just keep regurgitating whatever Uncle Rush tells you to, TP.

If you can't afford a home, you shouldn't have one just because George Bush or someother political blowhard wants to see minority ownership of homes. There has to be a nexus between getting the home and being able to pay your mortgages, taxes and other expenses. Pave these homes over an build affordable apartments--not condos or coops which are now creating a new wave of foreclosures. Impose a moratorium on the constructon of "luxury" apartments and build plain, simple affordable dwellings that will rent for what people can afford.

Our farmer ancestors knew the correct apparel for a foreclosure auction--overalls accessorized with pitchforks and shot guns.
