From the NY Post:
The Queens waterfront is set to get a vertical makeover by 2020, with dilapidated factories and vacant lots transformed into a Manhattan-like skyline of high-rises sprinkled amid sprawling parks, leafy esplanades and a "greenway" that will let joggers and bikers follow the East River all the way through Queens and Brooklyn.
"This area of waterfront has not just been underutilized, but it has been absolutely unused for as long as I can remember," said Councilman Peter Vallone Jr. (D-Queens), who is reserving judgment on the project until he hears from the public.
"Growing up in Queens, the waterfront was completely cut off," said Councilman Eric Gioia (D-Queens), who has helped secure funding for the greenway. "The waterfront today gives New York an opportunity to get it right."
Maybe this article was collecting dust for 2 years. Because with the economy in the toilet, these ain't gettin' built anytime soon.

Didn't Phony Tony Como just build one of these things in Middle Village????
IT IS A SHAME THAT ALL THESE CONDOS ARE AND WILL BE BUILT BY NON-UNION AKA NON SKILLED WORKERS. AND LET'S NOT FORGET THAT MOST OF THEM ARE ILLEAGLE ALLIENS. NICE WORK MAYOR BLOOMBERG YOU FAT RAT. I WONT BE VOTING FOR YOU!
im not voteing for that jerk off either please no 3rd term
Run for your lives Manhattanites!!! The 18-inch long rats will eat you alive, that is if you survive the giant explosive pool of gasoline under this site, the lead, the cadmium, and all the other exotic chemicals deposited during the last two hundred years.
First , they will not be built by illegal immigrants. Your nuts.
Cancer hotspots of tommorrow.
I love how they mention hallets point. The area is locked down behind the Astoria projects. The streets are lined with thrift stores, a food pantry, liquor stores, probably a few check cashing joints and storefront churches.
It's the ghetto. Period. No one in their right mind wants to build down there because no one in their right mind would buy down there. 20 minute hike to the train, at least, or you can wait for one of the buses that never seem to run.
Great place for a high rise...
Who the hell is the post kidding, other than themselves? What developer or land owner paid them to run such a stupid story? Sounds like someone is trying to get some press so they can sell out of the sinking ship...
Attack of the 50-foot rats.
The Queens waterfront was never completely cut off Mr. Gioia-boy...
unless you were afraid to cruise those rough and tumble streets looking for trade when you were growing up!
All that money spent on architects' drawings for projects that won't see the light of day in this worsening economy!
Stuart Suna must be crapping in his pants tallying up his loses!
If these projects are never built many people will be saved from cancer. I have deep concerns for people who bought into the old Eagle Electric facility on 21st Street also. Is all of the mercury from the light-switch manufacture gone?
This area was zoned for heavy industry for more than a century and given the level of probable contamination that's what belongs there. If that is impossible, then zone it recreational and put in parks so that exposure will be brief and occasional.
