Pataki considering Senate run

Pataki Said to Hear Senate Suggestion
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

ALBANY (AP) — The leader of the National Republican Senatorial Committee approached former Gov. George E. Pataki this week about running for the United States Senate in 2010, according to a person who spoke to Mr. Pataki about the private meeting.

The person confirmed that Mr. Pataki met on Tuesday in New York City with Senator John Cornyn, a Texas Republican who leads the party’s national Senate campaign committee. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to comment.

The seat in question will be up for election in 2010. Kirsten E. Gillibrand, a Democrat, was recently appointed to fill it after Hillary Rodham Clinton left to be President Obama’s secretary of state.

Mr. Pataki has not yet accepted or rejected the idea, the person said. Mr. Pataki did not immediately respond to a request for comment at his law office.

"The Republican brand is in the trash can. I've often observed that if we were a dog food, they would take us off the shelf." So said Rep. Tom Davis (R-Va.)"

Doubly true in NY State. Pataki and Giuliani are spent goods.

After the next statewide re-apportionment, the Republicans will be a permanent minority. It is over.

When Pataki left office on December 31, 2006, there were over 1 million fewer New Yorkers on welfare. NYS was the safest large state in America. He had lowered taxes for NYS more than any other state during his terms. He had created over 650,000 new private sector jobs. And he had preserved over 1 million acres of open space for future generations.

I rest my case...with facts! Let me know if you want more. Do you Dems want to go as far back as Mario Cuomo? Bring it on!

First off, these most of the job creation was downstate, the upstate area continued it's decades-long deterioration. In NYC many of these new jobs were related to the internet/tech boom of the mid-late 90's. After that went bust in early 2000 many of those jobs in what was then called "silicon Alley" aka Chelsea, disappeared taking with them alot of the peripheral employment in both direct support and servives such as restaurants.

The main "contribution" of the Pataki-Bruno alliance was to weaken rent and business regulation and thus further erode the stock of housing available to the middle and working classes.

Except for a few areas of horsey affluence in upstate, the Republican record has, like that that of it's mentor Ronald Reagan been one of misinformation and frankly, fraud.
