Now we will finally be safe.

This is an excellent idea. Some of us inherit guns that we don't want and have no idea how to dispose of safely.

If you have no need of the guns and are not willing and able to store them safely why leave them around for burgulars.

Most people who keep guns in the home do so in case of burglars. I fail to see how this keeps anyone safe. You can buy a gun on the street for $50 and turn it in for more than that.

Anon # 1:
Have an inherited gun you don't want?

Phone your Police Precinct to ask instructions on how to dispose of it.

That's what a responsible person would do.

And, as for this program, why not use banks as drop off sites?

That way, each bank would see, first hand, how safe it now is.

How about bringing them to Carolyn McCarthy's office?

I was raised with guns and I also believed in your "guns in case of burgulars" scenario.

Unfortunately, as an ex-cop once explained, you will probably yell a warning before shooting to protect against shooting a family member. This is all the warning a thug will need to drop you. After all, he doesn't care who he kills.

And for LEGAL acquisition of firearms, protected by the US Constitution, go to:

Do they offer a price list for
each particular model handgun to be turned in.

Hell...I'd say that a used Glock is worth at leat $400...ha, ha, ha.

Only $200? Don't be ridiculous!

Finally, someone who makes some sense.

What good does this do? All the Home Invaders, Burglars, Gangs and scumbags will still have them.

As far as the cop talking about a "warning shot" that’s BS!

It’s over 30-1 in your favor with the "Warning Shot"
...it’s just CRAP they teach at the academy. They want a docile obedient defenseless pussified public

If you don’t fire to take out the scumbag out first its 20-1 (against you)
You’re going to get robbed shot, raped, or going to end up with a family member in a hostage situation.

Everybody should be allowed to carry guns like they do in Texas and Florida.

Carolyn McCarthy is an assh*le !!
Her husband would be alive today if somebody in the railroad car were armed.
Onlookers had to let the guy go through 2 clips of ammo and run out of bullets (into people) before they could gert near to jump him.
The whole railrod car was splatterd with blood ----almost EVERY friggan (I saw it)

"Everybody should be allowed to carry guns like they do in Texas and Florida."

People owning guns in the backwoods is highly different from people having them in a big city like New York. Nightmare waiting to happen.

People using a printing press and ink is different than people using a blog, or even offset printing - therefore no freedom of speach for you...

One major reason that using a gun in the city is different is the high probability of collateral damage. Every bullet that misses or passes through its intended target is likely to lodge in an innocent.

As far as the home invasion scenario, the best argument in favor of a gun was the case where a New Yorker defended himself and his grandson against 2 psychopaths who later killed two popular college professors.

Even given such rare exceptions, the probability is greater that you would kill a sleep-walking relative or murder your spouse during an argument.

If you are not a hunter or a peace officer or a business owner in a particularly risky business such as bodega owner, diamond dealer etc., you probably should skip the guns.

Yeah, I also seem to remember a navy veteran who shot a burglar in his home when he found he had entered the room of his sleeping newborn. He wasn't charged with attempted murder or assault, but the Brooklyn DA went after him for owning the gun. A navy veteran who was trained how to use a firearm and did so responsibly. This city is messed up with its gun laws.

I thank the people of our armed services for what they do.
On the other hand I find the majority of them to be the dumb self rightus hot heads.
Many are paranoid or "Shell shot" when they come back
These are the WORST people to have guns "David Berkawitz" for example !!

The odds of a stray bullet actually making a fatel strike into a vital organ in the dark or after going through a coupe walls killing is very rare.

All the gun grabbers love to tell stories like that.

The odds of a home invader killing you for not having enough cash or a safe in the house you are much higher.
A rapist vs a unarmed woman is over 95% a given and another 99.9% given the cops wont be around for any robbery, home invasion, rape etc.

I do recall mothers putting their babies to sleep in bathtubs to avoid having them killed by bullets.

Today people seem to want war-zone grade weapons instead of something designed for personal defense.

At the very least before you choose to have a weapon get training on how to select, store and clean same and commit yourself to regular range time so you hit what you aim at.

I am a lot more comfortable with rural people owning guns. The city has more gun "nuts" than skilled users. Gun ownership is a serious responsibility that can cost lives, so ask whether you actually need one.

When they say (no questions asked) what does that mean? What if the weapon has a bad history???

Houston, Dallas San Antonio... All Huge cities lass, Houston being 3rd largest in the COUNTRY. We are not back woods as your uppity butt believes. We don't go around shooting people willy nilly because we are carrying all the time. It's called being RESPONSIBLE

Once again this is somehow seen as a good idea?
I own guns legally, shot for sport, hunting and recreation all the time in PA of course, can't imagine a state like NY where the Governor limits magazine capacity at a whim.
More nonsense form NYC.
