More than 100 Mets fans gathered on Saturday to catch a last communal glimpse of Shea Stadium. By spring, the site will be a parking lot as the new ballpark, Citi Field, opens next door.

The Times got it real short. There were close to 300 people there on Saturday...
It was phenominal... Too bad the Mets wanted nothing to do with it.
Was down there today getting a back window for my GMC Jimmy. (Some coward weenie threw a rock at my NRA sticker in Sag Harbor on last week)
I got some "Blue" pieces of Shea, some huge dust clouds were kicking up. Sadly im now going to have to sell those pieces to get tie rods & a wheel alignment thanks to the F_ City’s neglect. It’s WORSE then driving on the moon down there!! The ---Lunar Rover would never make it and I’m not kidding
There is literally a 12-16 inch deep 40X 40feet wide CRATOR surrounded by a maze of kitchen sink sized potholes smack in the middle of the auto parts businesses. Still worth it,OEM back window, privacy glass & struts was $75. This girl who looks like J-Lo walks around with a cooler on big wheel. Beers n soda $1. I opted for a dixie cup of hot butter rum with Julio
They cut the drainage conduit to build Fat Cat Stadium. Now all the waters back up into the triangle.
The old Brooklyn Dodgers were "dem (beloved" bums".
You loved them because they had spirit even when the fans (mostly jokingly) made fun of their lousy playing.
But the mediocre Mets were a shit house team with no panache right from the get go.
I'm old enough to remember a joke told on a late night talk show in the early sixties.
Someone referred to a mushroom that he said, "...Was grown by Ron Swaboda while he was playing in the cellar for the N.Y. Mets". (I hope I spelled Ron's name right).
Maybe he is from Willets Point and has a right to be angry, because what is being done to him in the name of baseball and affordable housing is nasty and classless.

Why your neighborhood is full of Queens Crap

It was a free event for the fans, something Major Leagur Baseball neither understands or condones.
A free event? you mean no sponsors? No overpriced foods? No over-zealous security? No scalpers? No lines?
A parking lot?
O-o-o-o-o-ops!
It looks like those Latinos were lied to about a soccer stadium being built there!
Par for the course from Shulman & Parkside.
Bloomberg f----d up royally also.
He's going to need their votes
(tee-hee) if he ever runs for his 3rd term.
If I were him I'd run as far away from NYC as I can next year!
mets suck these fans should get a life 100 idiots have nothing to do please they wont even make it to the play offs

Yawn.
But then, what do you expect from a Yankee fan--something intelligent?
That's not a Yankee fan, just a truth teller.
There's truth in that.

No. It's being nasty and classless. In other words, a typical Yankee fan.
By the way--his name is spelled "Swoboda"
"No. It's being nasty and classless."
Maybe he is from Willets Point and has a right to be angry, because what is being done to him in the name of baseball and affordable housing is nasty and classless.
Then let him go after the Wilpons rather than Mets fans (how many of them were demanding that a new stadium be built?) or Mets players!!!
Hell--I'd agree with him!!!!
