National Wholesale Liquidators closing

From the Daily News:

National Wholesale Liquidators on Kissena Blvd. opened 18 years ago, offering everything from hardware to clothing and household goods.

But its owners, the Rosen family of West Hempstead, saw the signs of its imminent demise last year, with lack of credit leading to its bankruptcy, according to news reports.

Yocheved Waxman, of Fresh Meadows, said she learned about the closing from her sister.

"It's an equivalent of Macy's or Sears, but much cheaper and lower quality," she said.

This woman is a genius.

Who will liquidate the Liquidators?

All the love that we had,
And the love that we hide,
Who will bury us when we die?

Were slashing prices.Everything must go.
Do they get a corporate welfare bailout like GM,GE,Boeing,Worldcom,Enron,AIG, or Archer Daniels Midland?

Cato Institute:
ADM and its chairman Dwayne Andreas have lavishly fertilized both political parties with millions of dollars in handouts and in return have reaped billion-dollar windfalls from taxpayers and consumers. Thanks to federal protection of the domestic sugar industry, ethanol subsidies, subsidized grain exports, and various other programs, ADM has cost the American economy billions of dollars since 1980 and has indirectly cost Americans tens of billions of dollars in higher prices and higher taxes over that same period. At least 43 percent of ADM's annual profits are from products heavily subsidized or protected by the American government. Moreover, every $1 of profits earned by ADM's corn sweetener operation costs consumers $10, and every $1 of profits earned by its ethanol operation costs taxpayers $30

What have Schumer or Weiner done to save this valuable business?

This business helps two groups: citizens who need low cost goods, and other failing businesses that need to unload inventory.

The business serves a useful purpose.

The sneering refusal of Schumer and Weiner to help this business is evidence of their own corruption. They want to only risk taxpayer money on corrupt, inept businesses that have been paying off corrupt politicians for years.

For the banks, auto and insurance companies, the motto of Schumer and Weiner is "they are too big to fail", for this business, the motto is "they are too small for us to care".

Never steal anything small.

Only the big crooks get a bailout!

And what does Archer Daniels Midland have to do with National Wholesale Liquidators?

Is there a conspiratorial connection between the two? Are the Illuminati losing their grip on everything?

Maybe in your "cut and paste" research you can enlighten us on how National Wholesale Liquidators was actually a CIA front? Think about it - Bush is gone, and now they're going bankrupt....hmmmmm....

I think people are learning that when you buy this cheap crap it doesn't last and you end up spending more in the long run on more cheap crap.

get out the hankies and cry for the stinky nasty Indian and Pakistani illegal immigrants who are the bulk of employees at NWL. sob, sob, will they have to learn English and learn how to relate to Americans?

isn't it so terrible how illegal immigrants from the mothership of Al Queda are treated?

they have jobs in Queens, we don't!
will the Irish immigrants employ Indians and Pakistanis over Yankees? you betcha!

Um, dumbass racist anonymous, most Indians are Hindu, not Muslim, so your bigoted insults say more about your white-trash dropout upbringing than anything else.

To the racist anonymous:

Most Indian immigrants I know actually speak good English. They even know how to play cricket! I wonder where they learned this...

The book "Becoming American, Being Indian" by Madhulika Shankar Khandelwal, mentions this Flushing NWL store by name on pg. 110.

Wholesale liquidators did not sell "cheap crap." They sold the same things that anyone else did because they bought the bankrupt inventory of other shopkeepers. My sister was an avid shopper who often bought much appreciated gifts from that store.

I regret their troubles and know many other unfortunate merchants will share their fate in the coming months and years of this recession.

BTW there's an NWL on Northern Blvd. & 48th Street.

And if they can't run that sort of bloodsucking business successfully, then maybe it's a management problem and they deserve to go under.

Re--the quote from the person who said "it's like Macy's..." I would like to know what she's smoking.

the place was a dump and sold poor quality merchandise regardless of where the goods originated. No surprise that it is closing. My only concern is how long the space remains empty and how that will effect the neighborhood.

For those of us that are raising a family NWL was a big help. some of the products were hard to find elsewhere. In the end customer service was the worst they will be missed. still why not bail out the little guy why bail out gm who said they will buy back the bankrupt parts maker they sold before getting money so they can qualify fot more bail out money. wake up queens tell your representatives how you feel

I used to shop at the NWL in Long Island City, I guess this was the NWL with the nicest and friendliest staff!? Because I NEVER had ANY problem with the workers there. In fact, they would go out of their way to help you!

In every department...they were extremely helpful and very friendly!

They knew their stock too, they could tell you when certain items would be back in stock. Not every item sold in NWL was solely from liquidations. At least not the one in LIC, they always sold the same items. Always the same GE bulbs, Black & Decker irons, Copco tea kettles, T-Fal frying pans etc.

I would shop there a lot with my elderly dad, the workers were so caring...they would get him a chair when my dad couldn't keep up with my shopping pace.

The LIC store also had a very wide range of name brand merchandise. Even their lingerie was the same brand sold at Macy's! Perhaps that's what confused that other person who quoted Macy's??! lol Some of the high-end brand bras sold at NWL were selling at Macy's for $30.

I don't understand what some people here are complaining about, I guess they didn't shop in the BEST, CLEANEST & FRIENDLIEST NWL! The one in Long Island City!

A few years ago, I'd bought two pairs of leather Converse sneakers for $6.99 each, I then went back to get more..I found out someone came in and bought out all of their Converse stock! He probably sold them on eBay for $50 each!

I really LOVED the LIC store and their staff was beyond wonderful...they were always helpful, friendly and best of all, they remembered me!

I never had any problems with returning defective merchandise, I'd either exchange it or get a refund, there was NEVER a problem.

One time there was a mix up as I was checking out. I had made a lot of purchases and there were many bags on the counter, which I hadn't yet put into my cart...another customer grabbed my bag of towels and left..we couldn't find her! She probably sped off in her car after realizing she had my beautiful heavy towels.

While showing the manager my receipt, I told him what had transpired....he told me to go pick out the same towels, he would replace them!! He said: "No problem" and he MEANT IT!!

I can't believe this store is going out of business, I haven't been there since the Fall, so it could be closed already. Sniff...

I gather they're all closing? What a shame, especially in today's economy...when we actually NEED stores like this to be staying open, not closing!

When a friend in Greenwich Village told me that the downtown NWL was closing, I assumed it was because their rent had skyrocketed...I thought it was just the Village Broadway store closing. I had NO idea all the stores would be closing or that they were even in any sort of financial trouble. The LIC store ALWAYS did very brisk business.

RIP NWL...they will be GREATLY missed...shopping there was always a fun adventure....

I also miss the late lamented ODD JOB...will JACK's be next??!!!

Bring back National Liquidators!!

There was a National Wholesale Liquidators ad in the March 18th, New York Daily News....announcing "WE"RE BACK! Value Value Value...Every Single Day!"

Are certain stores remaining open? That would be fantastic!

The NWL stores listed in the ad were: Long Island City, Brooklyn, Co-op City The Bronx, Yonkers and Lodi New Jersey.

Is this a short term re-opening, simply to liquidate their remaining stock....or are they really "back"?

Any info? Thanks!!
