From the Daily News:
In his FY2010 budget proposal, Mayor Bloomberg is providing details of the latest round of agency "gap closing actions" he ordered in December that are expected to save the city close to $1 billion.
They include:
- Reducing of the NYPD uniform headcount by 1,000 (-$48.9 million).
- Elimination of companies in dual-company fire houses or axing the fifth firefighter on 64 engines (-$17 million).
- Increasing rates for single-space parking meters (+$16.8 million).
- Cutting 30 basic life support ambulance tours (-$3.3 million).
- Eliminating 549 child welfare positions (-$15.5 million).
- Reducing "low priority" child care services and foster care boarding home rates (-$12.8 million).
- Cutting 167 seasonal aides at city parks (-$5.6 million).
- Reducing the city subsidy for libraries by 7 percent (-$20.1 million).
- Reducing senior center funding by 5 percent (-$5.3 million).

The mayor is also making cuts at the 311 call center by eliminating the 11pm-7am shift.
Oh during prime party time? So next he'll brag about noise complaints declining?
Police, fire, ambulance, library, 15,000 teachers ...
The lying Commissar wants the taxpayers to protest these fake proposed cuts in favor of horrifying tax increases.
He's so boring and unimaginative. Notice the absence of a call for suggested fixes from the actual owners of the city, the taxpayers.
Eliminate the "Community Assistance Unit" which is the Commissar's personal catering service. ($200,000 annual pay for the chief caterer). Remove all artificial turf and cancel any contract for future installation (at the manufacturer's expense, plus refund). Charge a $25 fee for each unleashed dog in our parks (each time the dog is unleashed). Calculate all the money saved by avoiding the lawsuits.
Eliminate from our payroll all non-essential city employees. That would likely be nearly all commissioners.
Come on, folks, join in; let's have a contest.
How many school teacher jobs would be saved if Granny Shulman and Parkside pay their fines for illegal lobbying??? I'm just sayin'...

Talk about boring and unimaginative... not to mention silly and repetitive.
You complain if he raises taxes. You complain if he makes spending cuts. You complain if he raises taxes. You complain if he makes spending cuts. In your sage estimate, are the guy's hands not somewhat tied?
I heard that "bloody" Bloomberg is now taking violin lessons so that he might fiddle (as did Emperor Nero) while parts of New York City burn.
That's a strong possibility with the cut in FDNY services that Mayor Mike proposes.
This will surely affect response time no matter how hard he tries to cajole or convince us residents otherwise
"In your sage estimate, are the guy's hands not somewhat tied?"
The asshole ballooned the City's payroll to an unsustainable number. He is a major reason we now need cuts. Why are we cutting FDNY and NYPD and keeping the CAU staff?
You complain if he raises taxes.
(because he gives tax breaks to rich developers while he soaks the Regular Joe public)
You complain if he makes spending cuts.
(while wasting money on bike lanes, and city planning on building even more unsustainible towers while we have less firehouses, teachers, and police - used by the Regular Joe public.)
You complain if he raises taxes.
(to finance stadiums and landscaping yuppie towers while Regular Joe public who pays the taxes doesnt see his family benefit)
In your sage estimate, are the guy's hands not somewhat tied?
(no, its the public's hands tied - every chance we get to participate is scripted to meaninglessness and no useful info makes it way to us)

In the real world, not a lot.
In the real world, not a lot.
One would be better than none. The point is why should they go unpunished for their misdeeds?

Don't worry, it's coming.
If they were accused and convicted of something, yes. But have they been?
If not, why not? Who's in charge here? As someone keeps suggesting, it is time to bring in the Feds!
Introducing Bloomberg's
new nickname:
"MIKE THE KNIFE"...
considering how deftly he's been cutting vital services.
"When the shark bites
with his teeth dear...
scarlet billows start to spread".
Who knows maybe some theater buff
can write a new musical.
