Hiram really a domestic violence-fighting teddy bear

Fresh Meadows resident Judy Grossi, whose daughter dated Monserrate for nearly five years while he was a Marine, called the councilman a “teddy bear.”

“He was so good to my daughter, let me tell you. I always looked to Hiram like he was another one of my kids,” Grossi said. “He never had any nastiness to him whatsoever. He was very kind, very respectful. He was and still is a wonderful man.”

Grossi, a victim of domestic violence herself, said that the only time she witnessed Monserrate’s demeanor change was when he saw her husband hit her one night in her home.

“When Hiram came to pick up my daughter, one night my husband, he just whammed me in the face right in front of him, and Hiram, he just went off. He was chasing him around the table trying to fight him,” Grossi said. “He went all around the dining room table trying to grab him, holding up his fist and telling my husband to ‘be a man and come outside and fight.’ That was the only time I ever saw him angry.”

Lawmakers mum about Monserrate

And his colleagues have nothing to say about any of it. But at least one member of the public is recommending he step down.

There's nothing like a majority at stake to bring all the whores out to peddle their asses to the highest bidder.

We have to remember each of these whores the next time their name appears on a ballot for any office.

As for Grossi, my question is: what did her testimonial cost?

"Grossi, a victim of domestic violence herself ..." goes on to describe how the Democrat senator-elect reacted to a beating given to her by her husband in front of the Democrat senator-elect.

What? Are we supposed to be stupid?

Children who grow up witnessing domestic abuse, usually end up tangled in abusive relationships as well.

To the victims and the child witnesses, the abuse seems normal, and can nearly always be easily explained. Then, denied entirely.

Let this violent, abusive liar take the oath, and the next thing will be that he gets violent in the state senate whenever he is frustrated by opposition.

I agree that his senate appt. should be put on hold until he is either cleared or charges are brought against him.

But I wouldn't be listening to this Bedell guy you have a link to... These local queens rags post letters from this guy all the time. I get the Queens Ledger and he's always posted in it with some kind of drivel! After reading some of his other comments in past editions I wouldn't be listening to a damn thing he has to say!

Now, now, being opinionated is not a crime. It's kind of the point of this blog. Strong opinions by blogger and commenters.

My advice to you is to cancel your subscription to the Queens Ledge. It's a rag without the letters to the editor.

If she is a victom of domestic abuse, then she should have an appreciation for what that women went through.

Its a bit like people getting landmark designation. They want you to testify, then once earned, they disappear and do not understand what your problem is.

Judy Gross, what a joke! I think they've finally found the perfect Manchurian Candidate.

Of course Monserrate's going to appear to be a "nice guy".

It's analogous to other sorts of criminals. Think about it - are there many successful petty thiefs and other confidence tricksters that have "dishonest faces"? If you look like a dishonest guy, you're not going to last long as a successful pickpocket or con man.

Extend that logic to Monserrate. Of course he's going to appear to be a "nice guy", he wouldn't last this long as a politician if he showed his true colors all the time. His chickens are coming home to roost finally.

Throw this jerk in the hooskow already. His cellmate "Tyrone" will show him what domestic violence is REALLY all about!

Every time a criminal gets caught, the neighbors always say, "He was such a nice boy." Of course people don't know what goes on behind closed doors - these domestic abusers are good at hiding their crimes.

Bedell isn't the only one, and the Ledger isn't the only paper.

Keep score. If you look at all of the Queens papers they all run letters by the same people--Bedell, Larry Penner, Cynthia Groopman, and a few others. Sometimes, the different papers will run the same letter at the same time.

I can't believe that these are the only people who are writing letters to the editor. Other people are being shut out.

My point exactly...

Right. When you look at all of the local papers, you realize that there is a small group of people who are having their letters published (let me add Ed Konecik and Edward Horn to the group) week after week.

It goes without saying that they have a right to say whatever they want as loudly as they can, but the sheer number of the letters that this small group of people send out greatly limits the ability of others to speak out.

I used to edit a Queens weekly paper and I can tell you with certainly that there are not a hell of a lot of letters coming in every week. Sometimes we even had to write a few ourselves to fill the space.

That is funny. I know someone who wrote a letter criticing Suna's land grab and the Gazette took 8 months to publish it.
