GOP might endorse a Dem over Bloomberg

From the Daily News:

Since the Democrat-turned-Republican-turned-Independent mayor ditched the GOP in June 2007 to prepare for a never-realized run for President, he now needs permission from three of the city's five GOP party chairs to run on the ballot line he had for his 2001 and 2005 campaigns.

But at least three of the chairmen, who represent Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx, are so angry with the mayor for a host of transgressions - failing to provide patronage jobs, proposing congestion pricing, ramming through the term limits extension to allow his reelection bid - that they might not support him.

"The three Republican chairmen would love nothing more than to support John Catsimatidis for mayor," a highly-placed GOP source said. "If we could all agree on a Democratic candidate, we might even back him."

Peeved Republicans may deny Mike Bloomberg GOP line for third run

Maybe the GOP cant afford to field a candidate. That is ok. But that doesnt mean you endorse the other side.

Rumor has it Vito Fossella is looking at this race as his comeback. Either him or Dennis Gallagher.

Bloomy works the system and everyone else gets burned badly. Republican party should not allow him on their line - but stranger things has happened before. Never say never. Money talks and everything else in this town walks as we all know.

There's the NY GOP in a nutshell. Catsimatidis recently pulled a Commissar: he switched his party affiliation to Republican, and the NY GOP falls all over itself to kiss his rich ass.

Read this three times: "If we could all agree on a Democratic candidate, we might even back him."

That's the republican policy: to strengthen the NY GOP, we must find and support a Democrat candidate.

And, these morons are meeting and conferencing to learn why they lost the last election so disastrously?

Bloomberg has been a disaster for the City and a disaster for the GOP. He left the Party long before he switched to a blank. Catsimatidis is new to the GOp only having become a Republican two years ago but Ronald reagan did not become a Republican until late in life. Catsimatidis was friends with Reagan and Bush the elder and is close friends with al D'amato. He has been supporting Republicans on a local and national level for many years. I've seen him at GOP events throughout the City and while he is not a smooth talking politician he talks commons sense and anything would be better than Bloomberg.

John C. is a car-carrying member of the NRA, earned his wealth the old-fashioned way, and has very-right of center philanthropic charities. He may have been a dem, but he's always been a genuine capitalist and hard worker. show me any billionaire who hasn't had to make friends with both parties. Really, who should the GOP run?

John Catsimatidis has time and again said he will bulldoze any middle class neighborhood that stands in his way of his 'vision' to transform New York into the playground of the rich. Worse than Bloomberg and Pataki did. He is not for you and me, he is only for the people that keep Helen Marshall & Bloomberg in power - the same corrupt New York clan that has caused mass middle class exodus from this once great city now in decay.

Are we New Yorkers simply incapable of picking a candidate who can manage the city agencies without corrupting himself?

And, that's all the mayor's job is: to manage the city agencies to require that each delivers the services we pay with our taxes.

The mayor's job is NOT to design and develop whole sections of this city for their pleasure and wealth. We can do that without the help of any taxpaid agency.

If a developer has some vision for the use of other folk's property, let that developer do the capitalist thing and persuade, purchase, design, build and sell, all on his and private investors' dimes.

Are there no New Yorkers fit to manage the city agencies and prudently oversee how our money is spent?

Where and when did he say this?

"taxpayer" brayed as per usual: "And, these morons are meeting and conferencing to learn why they lost the last election so disastrously?"

The NY state GOP is simply in the endgame of a longterm trend. Statewide, republican enrollment has been in decline since the 1970s, in NYC the decline accelerated in the 90s, in-part as a result of the rent stabilization war in 1997. Three million New Yorkers were threatened for some six months as the upstate reps sought to pay back the landlord lobby for their backing of giuliani.

Even George J. Marlin the former Conservative Party nominee for mayor was predicting what has come to pass for the NY gop as far back as 2005 (probably earlier).

The rent war(s) will be over soon as NYC regains control of those laws, but the underlying demographic shifts will only get worse for the republicans as the last of the meat 'n potatoes types exit the scene.

Democrats will be in control during the next reapportionment and as Mr Marlin predicted, after that it's over permanently for the gop in New York.
