Though I am happy that the
plan to bring 1000 more people to already overcrowded Rego Park
is dead, I don't get the design of the retail part of this project. I know retro is in, but I had hoped for something that didn't harken back to the USSR in the 1970s. Who chose that red colorblock design facing the LIE, anyway?

Shocking, more lies from Queens Crap??
The Crapper claims the residential is "dead" and will not be built.
The News Article: "The developer has made it clear, however that the residential towers are still in the works."
"still in the works"
What is the official languishing period before these projects are officially claimed to be DITW?
I guess we should believe this developer like we believe the Yankee Stadium folks who said - 'Whoops, we are $400,000,000 short, more public financing please. Whoops. replacing the destroyed park space is still in the works. With one less Sabathia and Texeira, the city wouldnt have to leverage so much BS.' They'll prolly move to Ct or LI to deny NY and NYC of their coveted tax revenues anyway.
To homers like anon, is your allegiance to the city, the developer, or the construction company? I am a private citizen with no pecuniary interest in any of this mess. I care about the community. Where do you live? Do you care about overcrowding, traffic, overwhelmed public transportation?
If you say yes, you wouldnt approve of this abomination.
This area desperately need a Home Depot?
The Communist unions prevented Walmart from considering this site - our loss.
Yeah, like Home Depot is any better than Walmart in the human resources department.
Rego Park Center
Oh yeah, look at all the apartments!
Politics aside, I have to agree with crappy on this one.
That is truly one butt-ugly development.
This area desperately needed a park not a home depot or a sprawl-mart
Yeah but the community board wanted a new meeting room. That will benefit the community at large. HA HA HA HA!
What the hell do we need another Home Depot for, the one on Avery Ave is only 2.5 miles away.
I think the one in Glendale is even closer. Now that the building boom is over I give HD a year tops in that location.
I though Home Depot had backed out of the plan several months ago?
Can we get negative Queens Crap outta here... I don't see any positive comments on this site.
Perhaps you misread the blog title. It's Queens CRAP. If you want warm and fuzzy go over to astorians.com.
Yes, Home Depot backed out of the project. While, they still own the space there will not be a Home Depot there. They are currently looking for someone else to lease the space to. My cousin is a manager at one of the other stores and he let me know about it recently.
Finally this monstrosity shows up on the Queens Crap blog. I have been staring at this hideous development for months wondering "what the hell are these people thinking?"
It is definitely ugly as hell and I personally advocated for a YMCA with outdoor space on that site. Too bad we were in the middle of a development boom - so much for that.
