Queens Borough President Helen Marshall urged destruction of the New York State Pavilion during an interview this week with the Daily News, pre-empting a city study on whether the structure can be saved.
"It should be demolished," Marshall said of the pavilion, designed by famed architect Philip Johnson. "We have great artists. He's not the only artist in the world."
Queens Borough President Helen Marshall: raze World's Fair rotunda

This woman needs to find another job. These people want to bulldoze Queens. If the financial situation keeps on the road it is on dont worry, she can live in the tent cities that will occupy the park.
Tony Avella ought to abandon his mayoral run and run for Borough President. As Queens' leading defender, this role would be perfect for him.
Helen marshall is off her rocker she wants to demolish the structure because she states its in a state of disrepair, what has she been doing for the boro of queens. She has represented queens on the city council and as boro pres for years , she allowed this "landmark" of queens to come to this state if as she states "disrepair." she is an wortless leader and needs to be replaced the only reason that this structure got this bad is because she never opened her eyes to see what the people of queens that put her in office cared about and turned a blind for the past 10 or more years . She needs to go please please please Mr Avella run against her and help save our boro from her stupidity and tweeding. Also on the news the other night and in the papers i saw every other boro pres fighting to stop the transit cuts in there district but noting from Helen guess thats typical.
F*ck History! What Queens needs is more McMansions!
That would be a great place for condos. It should be demolish just like that eye sore willets point this need to go.
OK THAT IS IT I HAVE REACHED MY BREAKING POINT!!!! YES I KNOW I AM TYPING IN CAPS, I AM LIVID!!!! IF THIS WOMAN EVEN ATTEMPTS TO TEAR DOWN THIS UNIQUE AND GLORIOUS SYMBOL OF ONE OF QUEENS' FINEST TIMES, THEN I WILL PROMISE HER THE MOTHER OF ALL BATTLES!!!! THE TIME HAS FINALLY COME TO TAKE OUR COMPLAINING OFF THE INTERNET AND ONTO QUEENS BOULEVARD RIGHT IN FRONT OF BOROUGH HALL IN ORDER TO RECLAIM WHAT LITLE REMAINS OF THE BOROUGH WE ALL LOVE, THE PLACE THAT THIS CREW SEEMS SO HELLBENT TO COMPLETELY DESTROY. I REFUSE TO BE SILENT ANY LONGER!!!!
Right, because we need more luxury condos in Queens. Moron.
Maybe we should demolish her office instead, and fire her?
What exactly does her office do, other than waste our money by existing?
This old hag needs to go pronto.
Wow. A lot of emotion here for what is basically an abandoned eyesore....
I am NOT for more mcmansions or condos, but I mean, really, get a grip, people. It's a mess and useless and the '64 World's Fair was not all THAT glorious. I remember it, I was there.
Helen Marshall's office and home should be torn down. This is prime evidence she hates Queens.
Has this woman lost her goddamn mind?

I have to agree. Who has rehab money to pump into bringing this place up to snuff again for the sake of posterity?
It was probably something when it was first built but it hasn't been a priority in a long time.
Can you forsee this being a viable money making attraction these days?
this is and has always been a temporary structure build over 40 years ago.. It is long time that it should be torn down. Amazing it is still standing really.
The Globe is the Icon.. not this dopey piece of concrete.
Unfortunately, you can't always pick and choose your historic preservation battles. Yes, the Unisphere is more beatiful than the NYS Pavilion, but that's also because the latter has been neglected for decades. If we only fight to preserve what the majority agrees is "beautiful," then we're in trouble, because what I like is not necessarily what you like - and then we should just get ready for more razing and more McMansions.
LOL ....I knew this was coming !
Marshall is pissed from taking a beating over recent photos pasted on the internet. The situation has made the thawn in her foot even bigger.
Shes just an old greedy wretch who need to get flushed
No matter how hard Marshalls Gang tried to neglect the building (to push it into emergency removel status) Phillip Johnson NYS Pavilion continues to stand and defy.
This wretch actually told people in parks willing to paint and work on it for free DON’T LAY A FINGER ON IT OR YOUR FIRED
Actually the structure just needs minor stabilization @1-2 million $) and the parameter wall/Mezz rebuilt.
(the wall and map must go to stabilize it)
The best parts of map are long gone and filled with plaster and weed anyway.
$$ 40 million to plow it $ 80 Million to restore it as new
The Question is:
- - Even if it was free
How many peopl want to go up 225 feet to look at this festered turd world country that WAS Queens in 2008 and get depressed?
Anybody remember the ending scene with Taylor & Nova in "Planet Of The Apes"

The LPC: ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
"fed up in Woodside,"
Name the time and place and I will be there. Democracy is not sitting at home and bitching over the internet. Lets use our rights before they take away the little that we have left.
Submit an application to LPC.
If it gets torn down overturn the law.
We all have better things to do with our lives than wasteing time going over and over the same thing.
Remember the Aquacade and Shulman: "lets tear it down until we can find a better use for the slab".
Enough of these morons. Life is too short.
I never thought that Helen Marshall was as dumb and incompetent as people always said she was.... Until I read the article. Man, that woman is a RETARD!
Tony Running for Boro President would be a joke. Look at the history of the office. The office has always been held by a Democrat
Tony Avella (D-Bayside) is a Democrat.
shes a moe-ron
Not to side with the devil here but, the pavilion HAS been left to rot since 1964. I know Queens doesn't get any respect with landmarks but the pavilion is a lost cause, why not make it a garden or something?
This unquestionably proves Helen Marshall is not only corrupt and is in the laps of all of the vulture billionaire overdevelopers that have destroyed New York City in the last 8 years, but she is undeniably senile.
We all will laugh loudly and heartily when she is voted out finally.
Keep it standing !!! I have impressed an untold number of people by telling them about the night I saw Humble Pie, Larry Coryell and .....LED ZEPPELIN ...there for the royal sum of ..ta-da.. #2.00. This icon of my youth needs to stand.
Really. Housing isn't an option here. This crumbling and temporary structure stands in the center of NYC Parks Department land. When was the last time any of you whiners saw housing built on NYC Parks Department land? If it is to be restored, then it should be restored to a useful state. But what could this building be used for? Theater in the Round? That doesn't work. How many round theaters have been commercially viable? Not many, I'd venture. And one out in the middle of Queens with no easy access other than by car, and in a neighborhood where parking space is already at a premium? Get real. As it stands now, it is fenced off and probably for good reason. Chances are that the building itself is unsafe. I'd miss it if it were gone, but there are better things that can be done with the land. Ideas anyone?
Agree - it's too far gone.
Tear that bird's-nest-hairdo
plantation (developers') house servant down!
Helen needs to eat some more fish
to beef up her gray cells.
Yet I doubt it'll help much.
Members of her own staff call her brainless behind her back!
But you don't need much up there to say "yassir" and tap dance for a builder!
NYSP was allowed to deteriorate.
A preface to demolition by neglect.
"Theater In The Dark" IS ALSO a temporary building that has soaked up millions of taxpayers' dollars just to keep Jeffrey Rosenstock in a well paying patronage job
running a venue that has sparse attendance!
NYSP, on the other hand, was designed by world renown architect Phillip Johnson
(and was featured in the film
"Men In Black").
That also qualifies it as an icon
of Queens I think.
please vote her out
Art Bell in his book was visited by people from another world there in 1969.
I got caught in there one or 2 times. I just tell em "Art Bell sent me".
Some guy nicknamed "The Theatre Nazi" usually starts cursing and hollering about tin hats. He gets so upset im gone by the time he remembers to call the cops.
Some friendly Cats live in the NYSP, they must be pets BTW

If we're not going to fix up the old NYS pavilion and use it, then we should tear it down. It's an eyesore the way it is, and it can become a dangerous eyesore as it rots away....
Now, if only we could get those UFO docks working again.... :-)
