Introducing Williamsburg's "Ikea" Building

There was once a garage at 439 Metropolitan Avenue in Williamsburg. When the above satellite photo was taken, the site was already vacant and waiting for its new occupant.
As you can see from the above description, it's in the Greenpoint-Williamsburg "anti-harassment" zone. This means city planning threw the residents a bone while they massively upzoned the neighborhood around them.
This makes perfect sense - an office on the first floor that only accommodates 2 people. Add in two duplex apartments that take up 4 floors, and you get this:

I've nicknamed it the "Ikea Building" because of its color pattern.

Must have been interesting to live next to the building of this two tone futuristic toilet.

Wait till the panels start to fall off and it gets rusted and dirty.

WHERE IN THE HELL ARE THE URBAN THINK TANKS IN NYC WHILE SHIT LIKE THIS GOES UP.

Well Pratt? NY Zoo? Columbia?

Oh, I get it. They are writing about how development is GOOD for you - and NOT putting up buildings like this were they live in protected communities.

Bastards!
