Traffic jam at Flushing Meadow Park

Sports Events Likely to Create Traffic Nightmare Near Flushing Park

NEW YORK (AP) -- Major sports events being held in Queens are expected to cause a traffic nightmare for motorists surrounding Flushing Meadows-Corona Park.

The U.S. Open finals and a Mets game being held on Friday will probably attract about 80,000 people to the sports venues at the park.

Park officials say they will have to direct cars to park on grass lots. Roadways will be clogged.

The weekend will likely see more of the same as the tennis series continues and the Mets play again on Sunday.

The U.S. Open finals begin at 11 a.m. Friday. The Mets take on the Phillies at 7:10 p.m.

Queens Parks Commissioner Dorothy Lewandowski says the city has a traffic plan.

Volunteer park conservancy president Patricia Dolan says drivers will face a "pretty hideous" crawl.

You don't say? So what will they do if Willets Point is developed and why did CB7 agree to accept only $5M for traffic mitigation when they determined that $300M would be needed?

"MITIGATION"...a little here and a little there...
"TRAFFIC MITIGATION"...
CB#7's favorite words after
"as of right" for walking away from their responsibilities.

And Chuck Apelian & Co. walk away with a little kickback money to stuff their already well lined pockets.

Why $5M wouldn't pay for 5 traffic lights....not the way NYC's contractors pad their bills!

P.S.

I was riding the LIRR last night
while both the US Open and Mets game were in full swing. Congestion is a mild description of the mass transit foul up!

The conductor announced at Woodside that the train was filled up and that passengers wishing to board were advised to wait for the next train!

They didn't seem to have much choice and maybe some of them missed part of the games!

And Commish Ditzy Dotty boldly speech-ifies,

"I HAVE A PLAN"!

Well, I had a dream that she, her "parkies" or NYC can't back up those words with anything on paper that vaguely resembles a plan!

C-mon girl...we're all wise to that smoke and mirrors game you're playing!

Do you have any actual PROOF that Apelian received a kickback for his support of the deal?

of course you dont.

You have another explanation for his sudden reversal on the matter?

Someone got to him.

So we shouldn't have Mets games or the US Open because of traffic? Genius . . .

Who said that?

They are going to use the grass for parking lots. I guess some things never change. Even after being exposed, embarassed and publicly humiliated, Parks continues to do the same thing. David Oates would be rolling over in his grave. He was our fighter for FMCP and publicly challenged Parks on the grass parking. Now that he's gone, we have no one to fight for our park. Parks Dept. wins, average people who give a damn about the park lose. Its a sad story all around.

People should take public transportation instead of driving SUVs. Problem solved. Also US open only happens once a year.

What people should do and what they actually do are two different things. How about the black cars?

Think of the children! Oh, won't somebody please think of the children!

Someone got to him.

Yeah they kidnapped his family and threatened to kill him. Or they gave him a duffel bag filled with unmarked low denomination bills.

Get real. This is not Russia.

No, someone got to him with a bag full of money or political promises from the Politburo of Queens.

Time to chuck Chuck!

There are many perks that this robust blow hard has gotten over the years.

Special zoning considerations;
i.e. the inclusion of the Armenian Home in a recent plan; yadda, yadda, yadda, ad infinitum!

We haven't even discussed
Marilyn Bitterman's perks yet!

There are many ways that "favors"
are passed beneath the table at CB#7!

They're not necessarily in the form of cash !

In the early 1980s a group from
CB#7 received a free trip to Taiwan
(the birthplace of Tommy Huang)...
h-m-m-m-m !
