Con artist contractor gets away with it

The Burgos hired Donato in April 2006 to extend their two-story home in the 200 block of Burbank Avenue out a few feet and raise the roof to create room for a walk-up attic.

Michael Burgo, who helped dig through the rubble of 9/11 at Ground Zero, had come down with sarcoidosis, a lung disease that struck firefighters by five times the average rate after the World Trade Center attacks.

Burgo was not a firefighter at the time, but later joined the FDNY and is currently assigned to Ladder 77 in Stapleton.

Burgo was in and out of hospitals when Donato contracted with the family to renovate their home for $150,000.

I'll let you read the read of the sordid story:

No jail for contractor who went MIA without finishing Staten Island home
