A construction worker was injured Wednesday in a fall from a concession stand at the new Yankee Stadium, the Buildings Department reported.

The man suffered head injuries after falling at about 10 a.m. from the third floor of the structure, where he was working on a deck, officials said.

The hardhat was identified only as a member of Local 40, the ironworkers union.

He was taken to a nearby hospital.

His injuries were not life-threatening, officials said.

No other people were hurt in the incident, officials said.

The cause of the fall was under investigation.

The Buildings Department issued a partial stop-work order for construction on the concession stand, and the contractor, Turner Construction, was issued a violation for failure to protect the public.

Typically, partial stop-work orders are lifted when the problem or violation is corrected.

Turner, one of the largest construction companies in the country, broke ground in 2006 on the $1.3 billion stadium, which is scheduled to be completed for the beginning of the 2009 baseball season.

In June I was driving north past the new stadium and parking structure. The parking structure is close to the highway. Being stuck in traffic I noticed that of 3 men on the scaffolding only one had a safety harness on. One floor was missing the safety netting on the exterior perimeter. I work for a subcontractor who is a subcontractor of Tuner and they couldnt care less about safety. They have so many job site problems and issues due to poor management skills. They have a litany of job injuries on their sites. Most are written off as first aid-paid directly thru them not reported to the insurance companies.
