Although I am a lifelong Queens resident, I have never become privy to why this statue of James Dean has been standing on top of a broken clock above the offices of Assemblywoman Audrey Pfeffer and an attorney on Cross Bay Blvd in Ozone Park. I do know that years ago he had a cigarette in his mouth which at some point disappeared and that his face was repaired a few months back.
I'm therefore leaving it up to QC's fearless readers to explain this Queens mystery.

That statue used to be on a building about a block or so north of where it is now. It was on a real estate office then. Possibly the building it used to be on was sold and the statue was moved to another building they owned.
Pfeffer probably believes that if a stopped clock is correct twice a day, maybe that trait will transfer to her and help her through the day.
ha... i see this thing daily. never questioned it... i guess that's one of those NYC things... things are.... they just are....
some questions cannot be answered.
My dad kind of remembers that it was originally above a clothing store that took up most of a block and that it was put up when he was a kid, maybe in the 60's. I'm sure someone will find the real story, maybe the Assembly Womens office knows. :)
Strange that I searched the 'net for another photo of it or an explanation and got absolutely zip.
Why does the clock have no hands?
Maybe Kevin Walsh can solve this puzzle.
Why is this considered to be James Dean? Dean's wasn't known for wearing a black leather jacket or combing his hair in a duck tail. He was much slimmer than this guy too. He's a Marlon Brando in Wild Ones wannabe at best.
Maybe it's Arthur Fonzarelli?
