We're a happy family (me, mom and daddy)

Raising a happy family requires more than just a good school system. With that in mind, Forbes ranked these counties using 10 data points: cost of living, graduation rate, standardized scores, home price, property tax rate as a percentage of median home price, percentage of homes occupied by owner, per-capita income, air quality, crime rate and commute time.

America's Best Places To Raise A Family

Wha...?
Queens sucks in these categories.
Where does "diversity" fit into this?
Why aren't there luxury condos or Fedders houses in that photo?

It doesn't!

These are all probably some of the lily-whitest communities in the United States! Look at the web site "Stuff White People Like", and you'll get an idea of the types of people that live in these places. There aren't too many people named "Shakwanda" or "Shaniqua" in these towns!

So much for Queens being tomorrow today.

Its more like something from yesterday best forgotten.

Queens is not only "diverse" but terribly overpriced. I've ranted many times that asking for $699,000 for a house in Middle Village is insanity but no one would listen...

Same here. That's why I'm moving to Atlanta to a house that's 2x as big and less than 1/4 the cost.

My 300 sq foot apartment in Howard Beach currently costs more than a mortgage. (And I will have a pool :D)

Um, Atlanta has five times the crime rate, terrible traffic, awful schools, much worse racial segregation and no public services. Most of metro Atlanta doesn't even have public transportation. Property values are dropping much faster in Atlanta. To top it all off, salaries are much lower.

If all you care about is a cheap house, why Atlanta? There are much cheaper places. Why not move to rural Mississippi or somewhere REAL cheap? Heck, move to Mexico. It's prices make Atlanta look like Manhattan.

You get what you pay for.

Yeah. Plus, since I'm Watching is going to have to drive everywhere a large chunk of what she's going to save on rent/mortgage is going to be burned up in her gas tank. Not to mention time wasted in epic traffic jams.

Also, and let's not forget it: Atlanta ain't New York.

I'm Watching: I wish you luck but I certainly don't envy you.
