Overcrowded trains have become an accepted part of the morning commute, as ridership continues to grow. Just two months after taking the helm at New York City Transit last year, Howard Roberts described the situation as “scary.” Since then, he’s resembled a man trying to hold back the ocean with his hands. “The 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, F are all pretty much running at capacity,” he said last week. Metro went underground to see just how bad it was during yesterday’s morning rush.

Why are we building a new second avenue subway when we can't take care of what is already built?
Big (and small) NYC businesses can play a major role in fixing this issue. They need to throw out the "old school" 9 - 5 work scenario and carefully look at different work schedules for their employees.
Tele-commuting -- a buzz word -- can help enormously.
I would love to tele-commute. I am pretty sure I would not goet paid as much however.
It might be worth it to not have to take the 7 train which always seems to be having signal problems. Like the ones experienced yesterday, and the day before, and oh yeah, the day before that.
I can accept that with Aviation the 7 local will be packed at 40th street during the school year. What I dont understand is that since Aviation let out for the summer it is worse than ever.
you said it crappy!
p.s.- Hey Anonymous #2, while varying shifts would help, I suggest that the MTA get their shit together!

Why do people open new credit card accounts when they can't pay off their old ones?
Why get a second car when you haven't finished paying off or fixing your old one?
Why get a new second computer when you have an old one that kinda still works just fine, thank you, even though it's a little slow, crashes every so often and doesn't have that much memory?

Because the Lexington Ave. line is dangerously overcrowded as it is and will only get more so in the future. It SHOULD have been built eighty years ago. But the one good thing about the delay is that it'll be built with modern technology and so, hopefully, will be more reliable.
