Bird's eye view of a big problem

From In My Backyard:

Surveying the damage to the back yard garden at 327 20th Street. Looks as if the shoring may have failed, leading to the cave-in and yet another Stop Work Order for Tao Construction, Inc.

Interesting to note - no politican, no preservation community (I mean, how much does their $600,000 go?) and almost no coverage in the press.

I think the powers that be call this collateral damage.

This happens time and time and time again. The few times the public get to see this, it is treated as if its few and far between.

Every developer should be require to post a bond for just this sort of thing - and the public formally, officially encouraged to report this.

But boy oh boy, build a big building and the world beats a path to your door.

It even has a bicycle lane.

I am in full agreement with this.

My husband's parents live in Howard Beach and they always complained about the illegal demo / construction going on next door. I called DOB more than once because of illegal demo, asbestos removal, debris left in the street, etc...

They were served with a stop work order (though as we all know, it did very little, if anything)

His parents got mad at me for calling 311 to report the neighbors.

They didn't want the DOB there because they thought if the people were left alone, it was that much sooner it would be quiet (ignoring the construction fence installed in their yard, the open dumpster full of asbestos, nails, planks & other debris in the street....)

But anyway, I agree with anon regarding bonds.
