No, because this step is on the south side of Hillside Ave., where the land is flat. Second of all, if there were proper drainage, there wouldn't be a need for such inconvenient steps.
"there wouldn't be a need for such inconvenient steps."
Are you serious? Inconvenient? Is there no end to what you'll complain about! You will expend one half calorie stepping on that stair. And during a school year perhaps it will reduce the size of your fat ass in the process. I say put them everywhere.
Amen to the last comment. Most Americans are so disgustingly overweight it's embarassing. It wouldn't hurt for many to use the stairs instead of the elevators or escalators or walk instead of using the people movers at the airports.

To keep water from running down the stairs during a storm.
That would make sense if all the subway staircases had them. But they don't.
They're going to.
it all has to do with the grading in the immediate area
Prevent flooding: many of the exits at Parsons and surrounding stations are built on hills vulnerable to extreme flooding.
They have them at the bottom of elevated train stairs, too
Steps like this would prevent the kind of flooding we had after those torrential downpours last August. They're not so stupid after all.
Yes, because we all know how successfully the subways ran during last summer's rainstorms.

Shouldn't the stations at the bottom of the hills be the ones prone to flooding?
The Parsons Boulevard station is at the bottom of a hill. That's why the step up is needed.

If there were proper drainage, there wouldn't be flooding in the Midwest, either.

The flooding is a problem on both sides of the street.
What happened to The Disabilities Act?
hey crap...another stupid post, most new yorkers would figure out that its to prevent flooding, but you guys are to stupid
Great capitalization and punctuation, Mr. Comma. And you meant to write "too", not "to". But "we guys" are the ones that are stupid.
