Plan to make construction safer

With construction-related deaths on pace to double last year's total, the city will unveil a series of sweeping proposals today intended to make the industry safer.

'BUILDING' A SAFER CITY

The proposals, to be announced by Mayor Bloomberg and construction leaders, are an attempt to rein in the seemingly Wild West atmosphere of the city's building boom through better monitoring of job sites and stricter enforcement of safety rules.

Most dramatic, according to industry sources briefed on the plan, will be a system to track serious safety violations by firm. Currently, violations are just tracked by job site.

Curbed has the new rules in fine detail.
