Hey crappy,
Last Tuesday's storm was a wicked one. It reminded me a bit of the July and August storms last year with the exception of the rainfall.
In Glendale, we got a huge wind gust that did harm to one of our trees. The wind ripped off a large branch and knocked it right across my driveway!
Here is the punchline. We called 911 and 311 for 15 minutes and we COULDN'T GET THROUGH. Then we called the 104th precinct DIRECTLY and they said they would "send a car out" (we are still waiting). The fire department did arrive later that evening to do nothing but OBSERVE THE TREE. And finally, we called the parks department this morning since it would be under their direct jurisdiction, and we were told that they would be here WITHIN 45 DAYS and it is not a guarantee at that!!! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS CITY!!!
Sincerely,
Alexander M.

Hey Alex, Check out this street tree accident. And this was taken on Monday, a day BEFORE the storm!

Yes Alex nothing is working in NYC. I was born in NYC and have lived here for 70 years and have never seen it in all those years the way it is now.
Yet our Mayor's response to now being number 49 on the list of quality of life cities is:
"Everyone wants to live here" - HAH
"Look at all of the tourists" - HE FORGOT TO MENTION THEY ARE HERE TO SHOP - HALF PRICE BECAUSE THEIR MONEY IS WORTH MORE THAN OURS - OBVIOUSLY NOT FROM OMAHA SPEAKING GERMAN, FRENCH, ITALIAN, ETC., ETC.
Well, it only stands to reason that if our mayor sucks....the trickle down effect is that everything else does also!
Are you sure those limbs werent planted on the car? Its jsut that, for such a large limb to fall on a dar, you would think that some damage would be done, like a dent.
Calling 911 during a storm and wondering why you couldnt get through...should be a pretty good indicator that there might be actual emergenices that need to be taken care of first. While I am not condoning the actions of those agencies that should have responded a little quicker, for you to expect the police to rush out and look at your tree, is a little insane. What would you expect them to do? Fill out a police report for the harm caused to your tree? Climb up it during a storm and start chopping at the broken branches? That is not their job, and unfair for you to assume it is.

Yep, there was a nice big crack in the windshield.
How about making sure the rest of the tree is stable and won't come crashing down on someone? Cordoning off the area, diverting traffic?
Commissar Death is single-minded in his determination to have city agencies deliberately neglect problems in Queens.
Why?
Because Queens taxpayers are the most intelligently insistent that government operations work properly. Foolish, eh??

Intelligently insistant people would have never let a bunch of two bit mugs wreck their boro.
Go to Manhattan or Brooklyn. Services are improving in many areas.
Queens? Queens is being hollowed out.
