From Streetsblog:
Two weeks ago Streetsblog reported on the glut of public parking garages being built in Hell's Kitchen, which threatens to worsen traffic conditions in one of New York's most congested neighborhoods. The City Planning Commission could have set a precedent last Friday by denying a developer's request to build a 400-car public garage as part of a mixed-use project at 310-328 West 38th Street. Only 232 parking spaces would have been allowed without the special permit.
Instead, the commission approved the request.
Nice. I guess all that hoopla about congestion pricing was just a scam to raise money but not to reduce traffic. Crooks always reveal themselves.

If this new mixed use project didn't get the extra parking spaces, then what? People are still going to drive in, and cause traffic. Might as well have a place to put the cars. My guess is, many of the spots will be used for the residential portion of the building. These folks would have been excluded from congestion pricing since they are already within the congestion pricing zone as residents.
No, no, no, according to the Bloomberg administration and Streetsblog, if you don't have parking, people won't drive. So they acted against their own logic. Unless, of course, they want to accommodate those rich folk who can afford to pay congestion fees.
