Willets Pt businesses sue city for neglect

From the Real Deal:

Willets Point property owners suing city

Property owners and other opponents of the city's $3 billion Willets Point redevelopment are suing the city. The Willets Point Industry and Realty Association and 10 large property owners have retained Michael Gerrard, an environmental lawyer, to pursue the lawsuit. Gerrard represented CableVision in thwarting Bloomberg's attempt to build a stadium at the West Side Rail Yards. They claim in a press release that the city "has planned to rezone and redevelop for many years and has been waging a campaign of intentional neglect to create and perpetuate an eyesore for the eventual justification of the use of Eminent Domain."

That picture looks like a shot of the capital of Sierra Leone or some other "vibrant" third world city!

Welcome to Queens, third millenium!

Go get 'em! Start with Shulman.

They should join forces with western Queens - only there it is not 'neglect' as much as 'hollowing out.'

Looks like Brooklyn's Atlantic Yards crap is alive and well in Queens. I wish you luck in fighting this.

I call for groups around the city to start to meet with each other and compare notes with the view to start working together.

Obvoiously the established groups, proud in their ability to give awards to politicians and exercise the art of 'compromise' with developers are all but in bed with the current system - or else these problems would not exist!
