See that Mexican restaurant on the right? I was wondering why an eating establishment in such an enlightened and vibrant neighborhood like Sunnyside would choose such an offensive name. So I went in and asked about it. Turns out, "Kike" is pronounced "kee-kay". Tasty tacos.

I've seen in the Chinese supermarkets of Queens cans of barbecue sauce with swastikas on them. Swastikas are religious symbols for Hundus, Jains, et al.
I'll forgive this restaurant if it serves bagels with their arroz con pollo. (I'm Jewish)
But honestly folks, I'd prefer to eat in the laundromat next door, watching the clothes spin.
Two of us gringas ate at that restaurant not too long ago. My amiga is Jewish but neither one of us read the sign that way as both of have traveled to latino counties. Wish some people would learn about other cultures.
When I was in England eons ago, after diner I said "Boy, am I stuffed". Six people gasped. In England that means you're pregnant.
So enjoy your dinner at the launromat.
If the B'nai Brith weren't so busy scoping "Queens Crap"
for what they mistakingly perceive to be anti Semitic comments,
they'd have a picket line around
that restaurant.
But it's better to be in their
"Anti Jewish Inc." business on line.
I'm getting a little tired of
the "hollocaust" industry" already.
It belittles all of the horrible suffering that was endured.
"Never forget" is one thing.
Knee jerk anti-Semitic accusations are another!

Why don't Spanish people learn about Jewish culture and try not to offend them? Why is political correctness a one way street?
To us and the restaurant owners it was a spanish word and nothing else. I would hate to believe that the english word is part of the Jewish culture. My Jewish friends in Mexico City thank god wouldn't even know the word in that context. Bet you don't even know there is a large Jewish population in Mexico City. Also a whole Indian village south of Acapulco that is Jewish.
What was not reported was the reaction of the shop owner when advised his store's name was an ethnic slur.
And hey, anonymous, you think it's OUR fault for not understanding that the shop owner doesn't understand our culture?
Every immigrant has rights greater than those of us who already live here, is that what you think?
I realy meant "How judgmental" So tired of people feeling that they are better than others. Try to remember what your parents, grandparents or great grandparents experienced when they immigrated here. We are all immigrants no matter what generation.

Grandma and grandpa assimilated into society and learned the language, culture and customs. They didn't try to establish a mini-country here.
Sorry, didn't know opening a Mexican, Chinese, Italian, Greek, Korean, French, Irish, Koscher etc. restaurant is starting a mini- country. Guess I'm a second generation un-american.
