Crime up in 104th Precinct

The 104th Precinct experienced an overall 4 percent rise in crime during this year's first quarter, recording increases in the number of incidents in four of the seven major crime categories, according to Police Department statistics.

Major crime rises in 104th Precinct

...the latest statistics for the first three months of this year show that the number of rapes, robberies, burglaries and grand larceny incidents rose over the same period last year. The precinct said crime was 4.35 percent higher during the first three months of 2008 than during that same period in 2007.

The number of rapes, however, rose from two incidents in 2007's first quarter to seven during the first three months of 2008.

There were also 65 robberies reported so far this year in the precinct as opposed to 58 incidents during the same period last year. The precinct also reported a rise in burglaries from 107 incidents during 2007's first quarter to 111 during the first three months of 2008, according to police statistics.

The number of grand larceny incidents also rose from 100 during the first three months of 2007 to 114 during 2008's first quarter.

All that these crime figures tell me is that the shredders at the 104are not functioning as well as in the past years. The sad truth is after enjoying significant, legitimate and historical crime reduction through the mid 90's to earlier this decade, it has become a shell game with the statistics and our precinct commanders. One needs to look no further than the ridiculous "declassifications" of burglaries along Metropolitan Avenue in Middle Village several months ago.

I'm sure the number is much higher. 311 & the 104th is probably sick of hearing my name by now. I've been out of work and working from home for a year and have called about a lot of things that get miss categorized or when the cops do come they sit in their car and call me out to give my statement threw their car window. Its such a shame, I've lived here over 30 years and hurt to see what this neighborhood is becoming...

Odd that crime is up and Bloomie has reduced the number of NYPD.

Cause and effect?

It's the reduction in force and the increase of writing tickets. Both to achieve money and are wrong. Reduction only runs the city more money (Law Suits etc...) and the pressure given on ticket quotas force them away from the PRIMARY job functions. The real problem here is NY counts the money made from tickets as revenue and that should be ILLEAGLE! Money generated from tickets should go to pools that help crime victims or communities. It should NOT be for PROFIT. The crime rate is up because our warriors in Blue are being morphed into glorified 'Brownies' )-: I'm sure if you ask one of them, they'd tell you they rather pass out tickets then risk injury or worse.
(You have to go back a few years to know what a Brownie is).
