The Bloomberg administration is facing stiff opposition to its Willets Point redevelopment plan. The city commenced a seven-month rezoning process today for the 61-acre site by Shea Stadium, prompting 29 members of the City Council to declare their disappointment with the plan.
Council Opposes Willets Point Plan En Masse
Of the issues to resolve: the proportion of below-market rate housing, wage and labor concerns raised by union groups, how to deal with the existing landowners, and how to relocate the tenant businesses, among other concerns.
29 members adamantly opposed to this, eh? They were opposed to congestion pricing, too, and then after a phone call or two from Bloomie and Quinn, all of a sudden there were 30 in favor and 20 against. I feel a repeat performance.

Hey Crapper, the Daily News today quoted some Willets Point businesses as saying that their "bread-and-butter" customers are undocumented drivers. The businesses were lamenting that business has been down substantially. You always rail against the "undocumented," how come I haven't once seen you criticize these Willets Points businesses? I don't want to use the word hypocrite, but I just did . . .
The creation of Wellington Pointe continues.......

What does this have to do with the eminent domain issue?
I wouldn't mind seeing every chop shop in Willets Point razed but I think I might hate developers more than criminals so I'd rather not see more money shoveled into their pockets thanks to Bloomy. It's a tough call!
